Question for those who work out

I've worked with 2 personal trainers, one at my old gym, one at the new one. I got a lot of those sessions because they were especially targeted for my needs, but it ain't cheap.

At the old gym, you could walk in, sign up for a membership, and talk to a staff member to get recommendations for a workout program without having to pay the personal trainer. The staff member would walk you through the routine, showing you how to use the machines and/or do the exercises; then you were on your own. I also took a lot of group classes there because I enjoy the social/competitive aspect of group activities. I quit going there when they stopped doing the morning classes that I prefer.

I don't think exercise will do anything for flabby skin, but it does help tone the muscles underneath that skin. According to several plastic surgeons I've heard speak on the subject, the main factors in how skin reacts to massive weight loss are genetics and age (because skin loses elasticity as we age).

I would advise you to join and gym and take advantage of their personal trainer.  Most places will show you how to use the equipment for free. They would much rather show you how to properly use the equipment to keep it in good working order than replace it or worse have someone hurt.

As far as the flabby skin...it depends on a many factors such as how old you are, how much weight have you lost, how fast you lost it, genetics, nutrition, etc. Working out can define the muscle and tone some areas, but it doesn't get rid of extra (flabby skin). The only way to rid yourself of the hanging/flabby skin is to have it removed with plastic surgery.
The way I look at it is if I increase my chances of looking good by eating right, working out, lifting weights, drinking plenty of water, stress management...it is a whole lot better than better than being obese and doing nothing. I  can't "beat myself" up about the way I look if I know I'm working hard to be healthy. It only makes me feel proud and strong! Best wishes!
