It's been a long while, but I'm finally scheduled for surgery! !!!!!!!YAY!!!!!!!

In short, after a multitude of tests, both my surgeon and gastrointerologist decided to not do anything in regards to the achalasia and to proceed with a gastric bypass.

Because I've been able to mostly keep it in check with life style adjustments, they feel doing a myotomy and the gastric bypass isn't necessary. Plus, if something went wrong with the myotomy, that could prevent having the WLS.  Whereas it would be possible, if need be, to address the achalasia after WLS (though the myotomy would be more difficult to perform).

I hope things are proceeding well for you too.

Thanks.  Glad you can move on.  I am doing well, esophagus is fine and I am on the road to success.  It's all up to me.
Take care, wishing you success.

Hi!  I got interested in your post right away because I was diagnosed with Achalasia right after having the gastric sleeve. I'm still going thru this and its killing me emotionally. How did your situation got resolved?

Anty input you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I too was diagnosed after the sleeve.  The achalasia has caused a lot of problems.  I am constantly aspirating...even when I am sitting.  I am scheduled for a consultation for surgery because nothing else has helped.  My GI Dr. Is sending me to Chicago because she said it could be a very risky surgery without a "stomach".  I am fighting aspiration pneumonia right now and they want to put a NJ feeding tube down my nose and nothing by mouth for about a mont to try and give my lungs a chance to heal so I can have the surgery to stop the aspirations.  I truly hope you read this post...I am very interested to know how you're doing now.  I feel like I'm at the end of my rope and out of options.  I thank God for my husband who grabs my hand  and holds on!!!

I had pseudo achalasia because my band was placed on my esophagus just below the diaphragm.  I found out about the misplacement when I received my surgical report a couple of weeks ago...I'm pretty livid about it.  It was worse after unfilling my band progressing to 0% motility in about 9 months.  I had the band removed last June and I'm better, but still get food trapped in the esophagus and have a severely dilated esophagus, which is permanent.  There's a chance the scar tissue will regrow around my esophagus requiring further surgery so I'm not a candidate for revision.

Forget more expensive diagnostics. SAVE every penny and have your band removed by a reputable surgeon in Mexico. When you have the money, I'd be more then happy to research the most reputable surgeon for you. I have some in mind, as well as those that are deadly butchers that must be avoided at all costs. There are some very ethical and experienced surgeons in Mexico, and just like in the USA...there are completely unethical surgeons in Mexico who you will want to stay clear of.

There is ONE particular Mexican surgeon whom we have dubbed " The Butcher " and this butcher has a ludicrously high, mind numbingly high, did I mention HIGH death rate.
