Angry with body proportions- NSV or what?

I'm a little pissed... I should be happy, but I'm apparently too vain to find the joy in this little dilemma.

I've been riding my bike a lot lately in preparation for an upcoming bike ride/race. This coming Sunday I'm doing 36 miles over 10 bridges through Portland. It promises to be the funnest "exercise" I've ever participated in with some of our very best friends.

My problem with this is that I'm training and building calf muscles like crazy. I'm toning quickly and I'm sure on a different pair of legs this would be great news. But my lower body has been the last to lose the weight. My calves are still quite heavy and now that I have muscle building in there, weird things are happening. When I flex my calf a weird dimple and shadow is created in the chub. There is an odd indentation in the fat that looks very awkward and ugly. I'll try to get a picture.

My hubby said to me, "Well Tiff, what do you want to do? Keep losing weight, keep toning or get fat again so the leg fills out?"  That put it all into perspective for me.  I just have to keep doing what I'm doing. I'm still in transition and I need to remember to give myself a break once in a while.

Remember: Weight loss is not a pretty journey but the results are completely worth it.

You look great!
I am also into bike riding now and it really does tone and help the pounds come off.
Good luck.
Best,

Have fun Sunday!  Yay for getting in shape to do that race!  AND what a great husband to encourage you to keep getting in better shape.

I'm with you, Tiff. It's hard sometimes.

I am pretty happy with the way my top half looks (thrilled, actually) but the bottom half is the bane of my existence.

The bulk of my weight was hips on down, and that part of me still looks like **** no matter how much exercise I do, or what kinds. I can squat my body weight, but my thighs aren't getting any smaller. I know there are muscles under all that dimpled, uneven, weirdly unsightly flesh, but I can't see them. And since my waist is now really small but my butt and thighs are handing all the sag, NOTHING ever fits right.

There's not a lot to do about it, except plastics, and I really don't want them, so most days I try yo just suck it up, revel in what I HAVE accomplished, and carry on with my big, rubbery thighs.

it does suck! Since I'm still trying to lose weight I do a variety of exercise of machines, and some body pump but I do take it easy on the pump because I don't want to get toned before I lose the amount of weight I want.

I know you need to lift weights to burn fat but I do it in low weights and I watch my resistance on the machines too.. make sure your working your arms and abs in other forms of exercise too..

Great job on biking

Tiff - I can TOTALLY relate - although my calves aren't nearly as frightening as my thighs - sigh -

You have done an amazing job - don't forget that!

Enjoy your ride - I did a marathon ride back in May - in the POURING rain - hope you have good weather - it's a ton of fun!

OMG, 36 miles is a huge NSV. How many people can do that??? Way to go. Try not to stress about the calves, maybe it's just a transition. Have a blast, I know it's beautiful!!
