I am going on Friday to set the date with my surgeon. I am excited but worried too! I just started a new job 2 months ago, and I was already in the process of finding out about LapBand surgery when I took the job. My boss knows about the surgery and seems real supported but I was wondering how much time I will be out of work? I do alot of walking, pushing a cart and light lifting. I deliver patient trays at a hospital. Thanks :)

From my experience, I'd say it will be a couple weeks. I just had my surgery 4 days ago and it has been hell. The site where they put the port is the most painful. I still cannot bend down or anything. So if you are planning on lisfting stuff and all that, I would say you would need to be off for atleast 2-3 weeks.

I had my surgery (out-patient) on a Friday.

I took the following week off from work ---- that was more than enough for my desk-job.

Barring complications, there is no reason that you should not be back to work in a week or 2.

My lifting was restricted to about 10 pounds after the first week.  You should be able to walk/push a cart and lift meal trays after a week or so.

Both my partner and I had it done on a Friday and we were both back to work on Monday, he drives a truck and I work in an office. Like Kathy, I was restricted to 10 lbs for a week and had no problems lifting after that.

I went back today two weeks from getting my band, BUT, I do not lift anything. Your looking at 4 weeks at least I would think!
Work would not let me go back with restrictions, so I had them remove the 10 pound limit since I sit at a desk and a piece of paper does not weight 10 pounds! LOL

I had lapband done January 28, 2009 and returned to work February 5, 2009.

Now I had revision to bypass August 1st and returning to work August 17.  I have a very easy job, but I am still so tired and not much energy so I am glad I am taking 2.5 weeks off.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

I would give yourself 2 weeks.  Everyone's recovery is different, but I would hate for you to go back too soon and be in pain.
