I have developed an eating disorder and have been bulimic for the past year and it has seem to have gotten worse over the past 6 months. I know it is dangerous with the band so I am not looking for lectures on here I am looking for Suggestion? Thoughts? Help? Treatment?

Thank you,

Heavenly Morning

Hi Heavenly,

If it was me I would probably go and get my band unfilled right away till I got the eating disorder under control.

With it being filled and you having problems right now could cause you more harm in the future.  So I would go and get it unfilled right away .

Then I would be calling a counselor that deals with your situation and start going and start going to support groups that deals with this .

Going to support will be a huge help and that will let you know that you are not alone in all this , and you can see how the vets handled the problems and help you along the way also :o)

You cant do this on your own  or you wouldn't be in the situation you are in right now, and if you dont go and seek help then it will only get worse and worse for you .

When you feel like you have things under control with the Bulimic then I would go and get my band filled again slowly .

Good Luck !!!

Treatment - absolutely.  I see you are in North Carolina, there have to be options there and I don't know how far away you are from Duke, and I am 99% sure they have an eating disorder clinic there.  Please get yourself some help, not just because of the band, but because it is a very dangerous disorder with disasterous consequences.

I suffered from bulimia in my late teens and early twenties.  I was able to stop the vicious cycle by seeing a specialist and I started taking an antidepressant that helped.  Wishing you the best of luck, you'll be in my prayers..,.

You've gotten some great advice from the other responders. I just wanted to add that yes, I know a bandster who developed bulimia following her band. Maybe this is not too uncommon.

Best of luck,
Lindsey

We all have an eating disorder or we wouldn't be getting surgery and be on this forum.  It is a disease that manifests in multiple ways--compulsive overeating---bulimia--anorexia etc.  Many times people switch from one to another but it is all the same fundamental disease.

Please get help from therapy professionals and a support group based upon the 12 steps.  I have and have found recovery on multiple levels, physical with the weight, emotional and spiritual.

Good luck ---my prayers will be with you.

Pretty  common --- they try to assess that during  the psych eval -- but don't catch everyone.

Please try www.oa.org or www.therecoverygroup.org for on-line or in-person support groups.

This is really dangerous -- please get some help.
