OT anyone had hypnotherapy (for anything)?

I strongly dislike creepy crawlies! Not a full blown phobia but enough to mean that next year when I camp in the jungle in Borneo, I will spend as much time watching out for enormous spiders as I do looking for the orang utans we are there to see!

I coped while trekking in Africa because most of the places we camped were closer to desert or scrub land and although there were lots of large creepy things, I could see them coming; there weren't so many places for them to lurk!

The idea of pushing through fronds of this and that in a primary rain forest and things getting into my hair............!!  Or being in my tent!

So my question, has anyone had hynotherapy? Does it work?

It's not going to stop me going! But it is going to make it less enjoyable if i am spending all my time looking over my shoulder! Oh and I really don't fancy the leeches!

I had a co-worker who was hypnotized.  It wasn't for bugs, but for soda and junk food.  He was on a medically supervised liquid diet and could not quit craving soda, chips, and candy.  He was hypnotized and said it really worked.  He was actually repulsed he said when he saw somebody consuming the items.  He had it done two months before the end of the school year.  It was working clear up until the end of the year.  I have not spoke with him over the summer, so  I do not  know if it continued working.

I've had hypnotherapy about a hundred times. I love it!

I used to go weekly for anxiety cessation. It was amazingly relaxing and restorative.

The brain is incredibly powerful and the power of suggestion really works for a lot of people. I'd recommend giving it a try. It's good that you thought of it, Kate! I bet this is your best bet to take away the creepy crawly fear.

And the hypnotherapist probably won't even make you run around, clucking like a chicken!

I think that if you are open to the idea it can work, if you think it's not gonna work it wont...

Never had it done, but I believe in it.

Hypnotherapy absolutely works however you must believe that it will as not to "block" it from helping you.You must first have an open mind in order to receive the suggestions hypnotically to benefit yourself. You cannot go into this with a closed mind at all.Hypnosis is the way around the consious "thinking" brain and all of its perconcieved notions.Hypnosis helps us to open our minds and make changing old habits a lot easier.

Because I have used and like hypnotherapy I have purchased a 2 CD hypnosis set for when I get banded August 31st 2011.One CD prepares you for surgery, and the other sets you on the path to healing. If you go online and research these types of CD's you will find extensive research has been done on how hypnotized patients bleed less in theOR,have less complications and heal a lot faster because it is the science of mind over matter.

Over the years I have found success with hypnosis for a lot of things and it definitly helps your sleep. One CD I have says a hypnosis session will make you feel as if you have had extra sleep, which I found to be true.(And this was not a sleep CD-it was for weight loss).

By the way, hypnosis combinmes with NLP=Neuro Linguistic Programming is very very effective too.I would highly recommend trying these out at home.

One word of caution for the pre and post surgical CDs though-Be sure there is no suggestion on the post surgical CD to command your regular appetite to return like it should for all surgeries that are NOT weight related. This could be a problem.

I had a sort of hypnotherapy for smoking. I went to the "Mad Russian" (sounds crazy, I know) in Boston. He is known throughout the country for his technique and several movie stars have attended his sessions.

He basically berates you and tells you that you're going to die if you smoke for an hour ("Americans are weak, we Russians are strong. Look at me, I have a metal rod in my leg and I'm 70 and still stronger than you" "if you light up again, you're going to have a stroke") and then he meets with you one on one. He has you visualize yourself smoking, smacks you on the head and says "you will never smoke again".

And I never did.

He says he can cure any phobia, addiction or bad habit. Best part is, he only charged something like 40 bucks and you can call him for the rest of your life and he'll help you over the phone if it doesn't work. (It didn't work the first time for my friend so she called him. He yelled at her, said something in Russian and then hung up on her. She laughed and thought it was a waste of time but then seriously never smoked again. Both of us were 1-2 packs per day smokers since we were 13 years old.

It works if you let it. No one has power over our brains but we can be "influenced" if you are open to it.

Best of luck. I don't like creepy crawlies either. Yuck...
