Insulin Resistance

My nutrionist tells me that's why weight loss has been so slow. I am eating 1000 calories and low carbs, high protein.
Weight is coming off a bit better, but still slow....and I have to do a lot of exercise.
Has anyone else heard of this before?
I always thought it was a myth....

No it's not a myth. That's good your doing low carb, that will keep your blood sugar level where it needs to be. Hang in there as far as your rate of weight loss. Keep doing the right things and it will happen!

Thanks for the encouragement.
My nutrionist says that I'm "so interesting" because she does not have another patient like me, who is on such restrictive calories, and yet loses so slowly. I am the only one who is on only 1000 calories, and she seems to think insulin resistance is the  key.
Yikes!
Cheers,
Mary

I, too, am a slow loser.  Part of it is my age. Also my sedintary, retired, lifestyle (on the days I don't do Zumba).  And part of it is I allow myself a treat or 2 one day a week, but still in moderation.  Therefore I never feel deprived.  Most days, my calorie count is around 1200.  BTW, I do Curves Zumba 4-6 times a week and love it.

I agree! Exercise is really critical when we lose so slowly...
I've got a long list of exercise stories, but will save the drama for another post....Injuries from the foot all the way to the neck and every joint and muscle inbetween.

Join the club! I eat 1000 calories or less a day and also high protein, low carb and am lucky to lose 1/2 lb a week if any. We just have to stick to it and keep plodding along, but you aren't alone trust me!

I get weighed every two weeks and the best results so far have been a pound and a half at one time. I go biking three times a week, that's about all I have time for exercise-wise.
Once in a while, I'll actually show a small gain, or no loss.
She finds this very strange.
Glad to know there are others with this issue...

I have absolutely heard of this. I went to a physician who told me I had insulin resistance. I eat half of what my friends do, but I am the biggest of the group. I can work out 2 hours a day and it makes hardly any difference at all. It is disheartening and it stinks when you are doing what everyone tells you "eat less, work out and you will lose weight" and it does no good. I am hoping that the band does me some good. My husband works in Virginia and he is getting the sleeve procedure out there. I am doing lap band in Missouri. I needed something that wouldn't require a whole lot of recovery time and I wanted to go with the least invasive of the procedures. We shall see.

You know it's so discouraging when you weigh and measure every item on your plate, and still have to struggle!
I hear you....
Once when we moved, without my trainer, I gained 7 lbs in one week.
It just kept going from there, and now here I am....
But, as an old WW leader once said, "I don't want it back!"

I am going through the same thing. I have PCOS which insulin resistance is one of the side effects. It sucks! It is a darn struggle every single day dealing with what to eat and excercise to lose anything.
