Lapband removed and revised to bypass success

As you know I had lapband placed 1/28/09.

So here's the story:

It was a success... had surgery done on 8/1/11 and just got home this afternoon.

The pain is minimal, had lots of yummy drugs.

I think I may have had a reaction to the catheter placed in me during surgery and they usually remove it the next day.  Because it is made with latex, it was burning my insides, and making it hard to pee, etc ... and they said they can't do anything, and it was extremely uncomfortable that I started to cry and scream and finally demanded they take it out NOW.  They did and then I felt much better immediately.  So they put up a sign on door "No latex".  It kept me up most of the night the first night.

I told my surgeon Tues morning when he came on his rounds, and he said I could have had it removed on my demand, which I did eventually when I started screaming and crying.

I am on pureed food now for 4 weeks.   YUM!  Pureed lunch was turkey and green beans, it was like thanksgiving!!

I will keep you updated on my progress!!

Oh BTW, I did ask surgeon if there were anything wrong with the lapband, he said no, it looked fine, and positioning was good.  It just didn't work for me like it doesn't work for most people.

It was done by the same surgeon that placed my band in and at the same hospital.  What was neat about that two Patient Care techs there remembered me from 2.5 years ago and were happy to see me and we chatted!! :)   One of them jokingly asked me if i had to come back for a visit! ha ha :)

I feel great.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

It just didn't work for me like it doesn't work for most people.

Huh?

I guess I'm not "most people" then, because the band works fine for me.

Yeah, I'm just sad that the band did not work for me! :(  :(

I re read the notes between the surgeon and me again this morning (I'm still pretty out of it)  he said my band looked normal and in good position.  "they just don't work well for everyone (most). "

I forgot to add that I was not to eat anything on Sunday which I did not and it was pretty hard...   Monday they checked my blood sugar before surgery and it was pretty high.  153.  So they gave me insulin before surgery.

Ugh, this surgery is harder on me, sucked out alot of my energy!!

Cheryl,

I just want to repeat what I've already told you many times, in writing and through an ASL interpreter...

You did not fail with your band, and your band did not fail you.

In fact, you lost a lot of weight thanks to your band. Not enough to get you to your goal weight, but still, a lot of weight. So I think you should consider your RNY as Stage 2 of your WLS journey. You're going to get to your goal, one way or the other.

Jean
