Will medications that have weight gain confuse the band

I'm wondering if weight gaining medications will restrict me from losing weight. Because I think that s where my weight and no excercise came from. What do you think?

Ask your health-care provider.

My opinion - there are some drugs that clearly have appetite-stimulating capabilities.
You will have to work hard to counteract that with a strict diet ---- and with extra exercise if you do give in to the increased appetite.

Some drugs may also slow your metabolism --- double whammy, if they slow you down AND increase your appetite.

You can use that as an excuse to gain weight, or take it as a challenge to strictly enforce your diet and increase your exercise if you are able to.

Help me out here...you're wondering if  medication that is prescribed to help people gain weight might keep you from losing weight?

Absolutely they will I have on occasion had to use prednisone and at one time lyrica and both make me gain like crazy even when I try not to. I can usually get it off once I'm off the medication but if it is something you have to take long term you could be in trouble.

The reason I had the surgery was the amount of weight I gained after 4 spine surgeries and cancer of my thyroid that they removed 3 yrs. agao. High blood presssure meds plus all the other junk in my trunk makes me work harder not to gain now that I banded. I love the fact I lost 50 lbs. in 6 mos. and I do little excercise. I know I have to watch amounts I eat and not too many carbs. I do have problems pretty often with my thyroid levels being very low, but they adjust that when I get blood work. The rest is pretty much up to me. Before I had WLS I spent thousands on all kinds of weight lost foods and never lost more the 19 lbs. and got fed up all the time and ate more out of frustration.See if they can get you on something that works the same without the increased appetite effect!!!!

Nothing "confuses the band". It is just a lump of inert material which places a restriction round your stomach. If you take meds which encourage appetite or bring about gain, all you can do is eat a bit less and move a but more.

A well filled band will make this easier for you but there is no escape from the basic fact that you have to choose the food.

Good luck! Kate

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
