Honestly not starting a surgery wars here, I have an question regarding your port
I remember when I was researching WLS I was going to have the Lap Band. I went to quite a few surgery seminars from different doctors. One of the Surgeons actually had a band with a port for all of us to look and feel to see what it's like. He described how it's placed and how it works.
I ended up with RNY (this is where my disclaimer is, I am NOT starting a war, I just want info) I ended up having breast cancer last year. A port was placed below my left collar bone so that I could receive chemotherapy drugs without having to have an IV. I realized when this surgeon showed me what the port looks like which was placed in me that it looks exactly like a Lap Band port with tubing.
This brings me to a question for you. Does your port creep you out? Now that I have this chemo port in me I cant imagine having a port in me that has to be accessed for weight loss. I am wondering how I would've done with the Lap Band since what I have now bothers me to no end. Is the Lap Band port as noticeable as what a chemo port is?

Sorry, but the port doesn't creep me out at all. What creeps me out are all the fake acrylic nails women wear. Truly, those creep me out especially when they have things glued on them. Or if they're really long and they're always so square. What's with that design decision?
We all have things that creep us out - most people don't mind acrylic nails and I don't mean to offend anyone who likes them, I just don't - but my port doesn't creep me out anymore than the crowns in my mouth.
You probably made a good call by not have LB. Take care.

I hope all is well with your cancer recovery. I am a cancer survivor (15 years) and my port like yours used to freak me out. There isn't much but skin in the chest area and it is very visible and you can feel it. I had mine taken out as soon as my chemo was over. Getting to the band port. Right now I still have 67 pounds left to lose and I haven't felt mine yet. I purposely do not push around in that area because I remember how much my other port used to creep me out. To answer your question no the port is not as visible as the one put in for chemo.
Congrats on being a 15 year cancer survivor! I'm glad you know what I'm talking about. I'm not a trouble maker....well sometimes but not this time
. I just remember when the cardiologist showed me the type of port I would have placed in me and it was an "Ah huh" moment when I realized how much it looked like the Lap Band port.

I can see why you might feel like that! I'm OK with mine but I suppose that it might be because I had time to get used to it before I really felt it, at first my fat buried it and to feel it I really had to prod myself.
Nowadays with very little fat to cover it, it is much more evident to the touch. I think someone younger than me who got very fit and slim and had good muscle tone, might find it actually showed if they were wearing a bikini.
I suppose it could be a bit creepy, but not as much as, say, a pace maker ( which I don't have!!).

Honestly, sometimes it is weird -- but I would not say that it 'creeps' me out.
I think of the whole system as 'my little band buddy' -- and am so busy being grateful for it, that I don't think about it being creepy.
It does creep other people out a little bit.
I have a low-profile Realize port -- and it does not stick out --- it is covered with belly fat --- LOL!!
Best of luck with your health issues --- try to consider that port as a 'lifeline' and make peace with it.

hi, good luck with your recovery.
the port doesn't creep me out except when i first felt it and realized what it was i was suprised that i could feel it. My husband on the other hand it REALLY creeped out and does not want to touch, know etc! I agree that the area that your port is in is not very "fleshy" and probably is more obvious.
Too funny! My husband is the same way. MIne isn't noticeable as I still have a bit of a muffin top that hides it, although it was more prominent when I was pregnant. When I discovered I could feel mine I was like, "hey check this out, you can feel it!" and he had no desire to do so and still doesn't! But my husband is easily grossed out, he won't even watch horror movies with me.
