I was diagonsed with neuropathy and diabetes this spring...both hands and feet.   SEVERE pain and burning 24/7.

Anyone else have neuropathy before the band?   I am curious if you saw an impovement in your symptoms?

I anticipate having my band surgery mid August....insurance authorization came in the mail yesterday

Thanks for sharing your experience....keep cool today!

I really doubt the band will have any effect on the neuropathy since it is a nerve disorder. Have you tried neurontin for it. I've talked to lots of folks that use it for nerve pain and it can be very helpful. It doesn't interact with other drugs and is mostly side effect free. You need a prescription for it so you might want to ask your doc about it.

I might be a little nervous about getting the band and trying to take Neurontin capsules.  They are pretty big.  I would find out if they can be opened or crushed from a pharamacist.  The band itself wouldn't make a difference with your neuropathy.

OOOppps you are so right I forgot that that is why I quit taking them, duh! Sorry for the misinformation. Do check tho and see if they can be opened or crushed then they would work and might be worth it.I was taking them for fibro so just switched to a different drug. Thanks for catching my boo boo!

I have had severe Neuropathy for 10 years and had been taking many meds for it. I had lap-band June 2010 and now have lost 250 lbs. I am OFF all my neuropathy medications 1 year later. I can now function without any meds. It took some time, but WLS helped me soooo much with the pain and now I can walk a few miles at a time, not 200 feet max.

Congrats on your weight  loss and loss of the neuropathy!  That is GREAT!

Thank you for the kind words. Just to clarify, the neuropathy is not gone, just now I can control it without the expensive meds.
