I have tricare prime and had no problem with getting the band.. I asked for a referral in Sept met with the surgeon in Oct had surgery in Jan. I needed a barium swallow, an esophagram, a psych and nutrition consult and an us of my gallbladder. The only thing tricare did not cover was the nutrition consult ($ 250) and a surgeons education fee ( totally bogus which i fought for  a little while but did not win......of $ 250).
I was over the 100 pounds overwieght limit but I do believe that if you are under the 100 limit and hav at least 2 comorbidities you will be ok. I was banded in jan of 2009....not sure if the rules have changed since then or not...good luck the journey and the end result is totally worth it!!!!!!

Thank you, Janet.  We will see how it goes after I meet with my surgeon.  I appreciate you!

I guess I should have said depending on the region you are in, cardiac/pulmonary clearance and a thyroid level may be required by Tricare. The region I am in requires them.

Thank you.  I called my PCP on Friday and ask her to order another Thyroid level for me...I had an ablation (my thyroid destroyed) early this year so I am on total medicinal support.  Have a good day!
