Help...I am almost to two years post lap band surgery and have done well.  However each time I have had difficulties in the a.m. with eating or drinking.  Can't eat for about two hours after I wake.

What are you trying to drink when you first get up?  If it's something cold, that could be the problem.

I drink hot coffee or warm tea when I first get up.  Then room temp water.  I don't try to eat until after I drink something hot (or at least warm).

If you're too tight to drink fluids, you may need a slight unfill.  You should always been able to drink.

Sometimes morning tightness is due to mucus drainage down our throats and it pools at the band opening. I sometimes take a couple of Benadryl at bedtime to help me sleep and it also seems to help with morning tightness.

I still on occassions have morning tightness.  So on those days I just try to get a couple of sips of water to go down then wait.  However I am a coffee drinker.  For me now and then it seems to help anything that follows to get through.  My band, unlike myself, is not a morning soilids band  I do breakfast but on most occassions it prefers liquid protein, especially in the hot summer and cold winter.  My band doesn't go for the extremes.
Wish u the best.

Good morning.  I'm over a year out and I, too, find it difficult to eat solids in the morning,  Like the other posters, something warm works best and even then it's almost mid-morning before I can comfortably get it down.

I had a fill on June 29th and it has just kicked in more than I have ever experienced and I am drinking coffee to start my day and loosen it a little.  I have to drive almost 3 hrs so I really don't want to have to get an unfill.  Besides this is the most weight I've loss since March.  I welcome seeing the scale finally creep downward!!!

This is really common. As long as you are not like a recent poster who couldn't eat first thing but could then eat everything and anything, I wouldn't worry.

I haven't eaten early for almost five years! Have an enormous skinny latte first thing and then eat mid morning. So I get a nice big helping of protein when I wake and then solid food a couple of hours later.
