Pain is not normal

I don't post much these days but after reading posts over the last few days, I felt I wanted to say this.

Pain, except for immediately post-op, is not normal. I am not talking about a rare stuck episode; I am talking about ongoing pain or discomfort.

If you get ongoing, regular pain, get it checked out.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Thanks for posting this, Kate.  It's clear that many people think that it is normal, or that it's okay to put up with it, so long as they're losing weight.

I can't imagine living day to day with the pain.  I was clearly too tight after my last fill and couldn't get back there fast enough to get the relief.  That's not a way to live!

BostonMamma,

It's amazing how many people do live like that though :o( There is handful of people in my support group that are tight as can be .

They cant eat chicken, they cant eat pasta, they cant eat red meat, but they are dropping 10-14 pounds a month and that is fine with them they dont care.

This one guy  had the nerve to say one time in support group with new ones that just had surgery go get as much as you can first fill and go from there . The more the better then they dont understand why their band slipped, or they have blood work problems or they have to be rushed to get their band taken out .  *sigh*

I agree.  I had a friend that had her band so tight she was only able to eat two bites of food (I'm not exagerateing).  She had a long list of foods she couldn't eat.  She lost almost 220 lls in 18 months.  She was doing great.  Until....

She was 2 1/2 years out and she started to have pain and wasn't able to eat.  She waited 4 MONTHS to get it checked out....and that was only because she was doubled over in pain.  She ended up in the ER and had have emergency surgery to have her band removed.  The doctor said a new band was impossible.  She had kept her band so tight for so long that she had scarring all over her stomach and surrounding organs (including her liver!!!).  Long story short...in little over a year she gained back almost everything she lost!!!!

It's never ever a good thing to keep your band too tight and if you feel pain go to the doctor asap!!!  I saw this with my own two eyes and it was a warning to me.  I will not ignore pain...if I can't eat 4-6 oz of lean protein I will get a slight unfill.

I know somebody like that also. She can eat 1/4 cup of food and that is it. She has lost 33 pounds in 2 months . I think that is just so unhealthy. My doc told me if there was ever a time I can't eat a cup of food at a sitting then he wants fluid taken out because of nutritional needs.
