Port Pain

Good Morning!  I am 5 years out, not as careful as I should be and trying to maintain my current weight. Well, would really like to take off about 13 pounds. I have put  that on in about 2 years.  I am having a little bit of port pain.  Kind of like a dull ache only once in a while. Not when I push on it, but just  a little pain periodically.  Have not had a fill in years.  Don't really want an unfill. I am quite restricted.  I have vowed to go back to my good band eating rules. I have not lost my love of food, sadly and I want to eat a meal, but I have to go back to knowing I cant!!  I have to order an appetizer or share with my family.  Any thoughts on my port issue?

Wanna,

Have you started back to exercise ? The reason why I say this is I just started a five week  ab / zumba with weights exercise and my whole sides , arms , and port area are so sore right now .

Could that be the reason ? Anytime I do any kind of twisting of the stomach, ab workout it will get really sore for a few days .

That is a thought!  I have been walking a lot and added a little running.  Do you know anything about slips or stretching the pouch?

The only thing I know about stretching off the stomach is what my doc told me because I asked him about it when I first got the band.

he told me for me to stretch my stomach out I would have to go back to the old way of eating like I did before for month and months of eating like that for to even stretch it out.  He said you would probably get sick before you could eat all that food .

My GF didn't try with her band for almost 2 yrs ate what she wanted, ate alot so to speak and hers is just fine and let me tell you she ate , ate and ate .

Like he said you have to do some really hard core eating for that to happen . Eating a cup and half  or even a 2 cups of food every once awhile is not going to stretch your stomach back out ,.

As for as slips . The only thing I can tell you is what the girls on here said,. If you get a slip you wouldn't be able to eat, or keep your spit down from what I understand .  It's really hard to keep food down and you dont want to eat but nothing like soups, slider foods that is easier to go down . You would be throwing up basically every time you try to eat something that would be the first sign I would be looking for .  Having reflux is a good sign a band has slipped not all the time though but that is a sign that your band could be to tight also .

Also your band can slip if you keep it to tight for long periods of time , a girl in my support group did that kept her band tight and it slipped .

As far as your walking that might be the reason why you are sore .  Even when we do walking our tummys do twist a little and if you havent exercised in awhile that could very well be the reason.   I would see if it works itself out for a week or so if not call your doc.

Port pain is annoying. I recently went in for this after having some issues. I asked the doc what the deal was because every so often I get this feeling and I wanted to know if I was causing it with exercise. It was explained to me that over time when you lose weight the muscle that the port is attached to can get aggravated. I workout 3-4 times a week. I have a personal trainer and I was concerned that some of the routines that I do are causing the pain. The doctor said that doing such things as sit ups will definitely cause discomfort and to just do cardio which will lessen it.

I can't specifically say what is causing you the port pain but I believe that everyone is different. For me, any exercise, sit ups, cardio, weight resistance causes me a little upset. I try to keep a running journal of my activities. Usually the day after I will notice that the port acts up.
