Really Bad Monday

I am 9 months post op and i am having a really bad week. Last saturday I saw a number on the scale that i have not seen in years. I was so happy I was feeling confident going to the gym and doing a little more because i could. On Monday the 4th I spent the day at an amusement park. Feeling great about all i could do. Tues day weighed myself and noticed I was up 3lbs wasn't worried thought ok maybe i shouldn't have had that ice cream at the park. So back on track for rest of the week. Had appt with my surgeon (follow up) scale still up but lost 7 lbs for the month. Getting frustrated but happy with 7lbs for the month. Thought i was doing good eating going to the gym. Well today I get on the scale (monday's are my weigh in days) It is up another 3.6. Now i am freaking out!. All weekend my stomach has been cramping, bloated, and constipated. For the first time since surgery I am feeling the urge to just say screw it and eat everything in sight. I am feeling so depressed today.

Has anyone had these problems with the cramping, bloating, and constipation and weight gain? Is there something wrong with me?

Hey Tina,

I'm about 5 mos out and I have had those feelings once or twice.  But don't give up.  You really can do this.  Would it help to put away your scale for a few weeks...maybe only weigh when you go to the doctor?  I don't know because I'm still going once/month so I have a regular check-in.

Just keep doing the *right* thing for yourself more days than you don't, and you will make progress.  Try to get rid of that all-or-nothing mindset.

You are right about the all-or-nothing. It was awful to see that scale go up :(

When its that time of the month for me I will gain anywhere from 5-10 pounds in over three days and it wont come back off till my period is over and done with.

And it dont help matters either during this time is the only time I crave sweets and carbs and I had way to many carbs this weekend on the boat.  The potato chips got the best of me and I never eat that stuff any other time .

When I get constipated I eat a salad two or three days and that gets me going . Also if I eat something a tab bit greasy that will make me go also . It dont have to be that much just a Bob Evans Sausage Sandwich patty cause my tummy isn't use to it no more .  I dont get sick it just helps me get unstuck if that makes sense lol

I also eat High Fiber Sara Lee Muffins and High Fiber tortillas. I found one that Misson makes its low carb but very high in Fiber and I make Stea**** with green peppers, mushrooms, and onions , Swiss cheese and tablespoon of light mayo and roll that up in one of my tortilla shells talk about yum yum lol .  When you factor total carbs and then the fiber its only 7 net carbs and I'm getting alot of fiber.  I get alot of my fiber from that. Its 11 grams of fiber plus 5 grams of protein.

Don't let it get to you.  It sounds like water retention.  Are you pre-menstrual?    If not, it could be from heat, sodium and a multitude of other things.  Even if you've eaten a lot of gassy type foods like beans, broccoli, etc.

The ice cream you ate on Saturday won't register this soon as a weight gain.  I can easily gain 3-5 lbs from water retention.

Just keep drinking water, take gasX if you need to and stay away form prepared and frozen foods for a few days.  I bet you'll see a nice drop in a day or so.

Regardless, there will be days and weeks like this one, so hang in there!  Never give up!

Best~

My sweet friend Lisa Beezee told me to increase my fiber and it will help with weight loss.  I bought fiber gummies (which I eat 3 times a day) and I bought some benefiber (which I put in coffee and decaf and can go on other things).  It pushed me past a stall back to a regular weight loss for me.  Hope this helps.

I've had the lapband for 4 months now and I'm always constipated. If I do not take a dose of Miralax every morning I'll gain like nobodys business.

OMG, I thought I was the only one this happened to.  ME TOO......  My gosh, I will go a week with out going.  Its horrible, but see its to the point now, I can take 2 doses a day and still nothing.  I have to do 2 dose of Miraliax and if that doesn't help, then I do benefiber the next day, and keep it up everyday till I go...I know somedays I am up because I haven't gone is so long....

I am about 4 mths out.  I had surgery 3/23 and down 40 lbs....I have been working out like crazy, but that number just doesn't wanna move!!!  UGH!!!

When I get that bad my doctor tells me to go to The store and but magnesium citrate and drink the entire bottle. After I do that I typically have a BM in the next 6 hours. I always get the cherry flavor and drink it REALLY cold!
