To clarify by a revision, I had a replacement and not a "revision" they changed the brand and size of the band and replaced my port

Count me as one of the satisfied and successful bandsters.. so far.   2.25 years out and 200lbs down.

I'm sitting here wearing a pair of 16 capri's that I got off the clearance rack for 3.00.  I did an hour of aerobics this am.  My HDL & LDL numbers are to be envied.

Downside?  I've gone from 115% to 95% bone density in my hips due to less stress on my bones due to weight loss.  But.. that's not too bad for my age and we're keeping an eye on it with yearly Dexa scans (and I take calcium & lift weights to help).

My oncologist when I asked her about banding, said something like "If that's what you want to do to yourself", I think she was confusing banding with the RNY.... and now when I check in with her at my 6 month appt, is all "WOW, you're a new woman".  I just smile.

Would I get the sleeve now if I was making the choice?  I don't know.  My best answer is Maybe.  While I have the band, I will take as good a care of it as I can and hope for the best.  If I should need another surgery, which I'm hoping will not happen.. the sleeve would be my choice over a malabsorptive surgery because of my other health issues.

Good for you for doing research.  We will support you in your weight loss efforts no matter what you choose.. or even if you choose not to do surgery.  :)

I had my band put in in Jan of 2009....I AM VERY HAPPY with my band. I have not had a fill for about 18 months......I have lost 100 lbs with about 20 or 25 more to go ideally.  I just had an extended tummy tuck to get rid of a hughapron of skin........would I do it again?????ABSOLUTELY...any regrets......NOT DOING IT SONER!!!

yes having a band can be hard at times.....do I rave an oooey goooey cheeeburger.....sure ...on occ.......have I had to do alot of the work ab****ely.....truth is I could wiegh less if I made great food choices everyday BUT I can eat most things yes I eat sweets BUT in way less then I use too. I can enjoy my life and eating and still maintain my weight. If the scale starts to go in the wrong direction I make better choices eat less and exercise more.
My PCP does outine labs abd the only thin I have a problem with is folic acid and Vit D. the only one that was abnormally low was Vit D but  I also have PCOS and recent studies link PCOS and low Vit D.....I take Vit D and a multi vitamin. My calcium levels are fine.
Best of luck with your surgery and YOUR decision. Ultimately you have to chose what is right for you. Shift through the info here and make your choice.
Follow your surgeons instructions work hard and enjoy as the pounds disappear........GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY

I am VERY happy with my band.  I am down 72# because I am trying to be very diligent and not mess around with stuff that doesn't belong on my food plan.  It has been almost 7 months---and now eating the small meals 6 times a day is a habit.  I work out 2-4 times a week and drink all the water I am supposed to.  I just wasnt comfortable with the other surgeries---even though I knew people who had done well with them.  I also knew people who had not done well with them.  It is an individual choice and a big commitment no matter which one you choose to do.  Either way it is a huge lifestyle change and a big investment in yourself---you are worth it.  Best wishes on this journey.  Harmony

 Bari:

I'm one of the oldest old-timers here. I was banded in December of 2003. Yes, I was successful. yes, I'm beyond happy with my band and I doubt that I would have been as happy with another procedure. The band was what I wanted for my needs and lifestyle. It and I worked in tandem to make my weight loss successful.

You need to carefully weigh all the options, decide which one is right for YOU based on your own hopes, needs, wants and life. Take everyone's suggestions and comments to heart, but only you know which will be best for you. If it's the band, GREAT! Welcome. If it's something else, GREAT! Welcome!

I'm very happy with my band experience.  The only thing I don't like is the concern that it is a mechanical device and I'm only 46, so the chances of it failing is a pretty sure bet at some point. I've been told that my insurance would cover a revision to a sleeve if there's failure.  I don't want anything bad to happen to my band and I do everything I can to keep it safe.
