Maybe im doing this wrong???
I need some advce from some oldbies.
I had surgery July 6th. So far ive been living on sf Jello, sf popsicles, and chicken broth.
Ive been drinking water, diet snapple and *gag* Isopure.
everyone says there were NOT hungry after surgery... then what is wrong with me? my stomach is constantly growling. If someone offered me a bagel wtih cream cheese, i would probably attack them like a squirell monkey.
I keep getting these waves of pressure that rise from my stomach to my throat. Then... tummy growls.
I dont know if im eating too much or too little.
To be honest, i cant finish a cup of jello, but my tummy growls after eating it.
I dunno.. im kind of emotional today. Im 4 days post op and this is when im starting to realize... this is going to be a long journey. Everything still hurts. Ribs and stomach are sore, it hurst to get up and down. *sigh*
Cant wait until this phase passes.
And i cant tell you how much i am looking forward to pureed chicken and mashed potatos!!!!!!!

I had surgery on the 23rd and I'm 2 1/2 wks out. Today is my last day of pureed I go to normal food tomorrow (first 7 days liquid then next 10 days pureed). You'll hate me when I say this but I'm not hungry. I had a RNY back in 8/2002 and wasn't hungry then either and the same has been true with my BOB. I et bc I'm supposed to. I was always hungry Pre-op, hence the stretched pouch and the need for the band. I tribute the lack of hunger now to my tummy being swollen and also the 3 weeks of liquids I was on (2wks Pre-op, 1 wk post-op). Did u have to do anything similar? Talk to your doctor if your concerned. I was having pains which I thought were hunger pains and they would go away when I ate, this was weird to me bc my nerves have been cut from the RNY that I shouldn't have hunger pains. Instead it was acid buildup in my stomach, I'm now on meds.
I go for my first post op appointment on Tuesday.
Im hoping all is good and it is just gas like suggested. Im trying to push anything out, but im still a bit sore from surgery, so i dont do much pushing with my stomach muscles.
As far as pre op.. i was on ONE Day clear liquids. NO way i would have made it 2 weeks!! OMG! haha.
I dont hate you for not being hungry..im jealous!!! I know how awful i felt the one day pre op, being on all liquids, i was kind of hoping that feeling would go away after surgery.
Oh well... im sticking this out.
One more thought.
I dont know if im getting enough protein a day.
I am currently drinking one bottle of Isopure a day, (40g)
I wasnt really told by my nutritionist how much i should be getting in every day.

I only had to do 3 days of clear liquids -- then, could do 'full liquids' = and for me, that meant that I could have 'thin yogurt, pudding, cream soups'.
I was encouraged to get 60 - 80 grams of protein a day -- through shakes/
If you are still on 'clears' -- try to add another 1/2 Isopure a day to see if the protein helps.
I had no appetite for about 3 days post-op, but then it came back.
I let myself 'eat' every 2 - 3 hours -- even if it was just a jello snack or a popsicle.
sugar free mints in between 'eating' helped me, too.
Hang in there -- it gets better!!

What you may be experiencing is gas. The description you give is siliar to what happens when you are post op from the lapband. It gets easier, give it a few more daysand you will be back to normal :)

I was banded June 24th and am still on pureed. The first few days I had the major growls but I wasn't hungry. I think we psychologically associate those sounds with hunger when physically they are not. I found they did go away for the most part. At just over 2 weeks out, I haven't actually felt hungry - but I try to eat every 3 hours and include lots of protein - yes including the nasty Isopure!

Your stomach growling doesn't always mean you're hungry. Especially with the band, your larger stomach will make a lot of noise even if your new smaller pouch is full. It's just your larger stomachs way of saying, "Hey, where's all the food I'm used to getting!" Actually, it really just the digestive juices gearing up to digest the food when it gets there and my surgeon says most of a growling stomach is actually your pancreas.
So, if you're getting enough protein and keep pushing the zero calorie fluids you'll be fine. But you have to keep sipping because the fluids will go through your ouch quickly becuase you don't have any fluid in your band. What you're feeling now if swelling.
I hope your surgeon will release you to and all fluid diet so you can get off clears. I was able to have full liquids post op and was fine with 3 shakes a day and a large variety of zero calorie flavored water, unsweetened ice tea, boullion, strained soups, SF popcicles and SF pudding, etc.
