Two days post-op questions
Hi,
I had my surgery on Thursday, the 7th. I have a burning in my throat. Is that common? Could it just be from having the tubes down my throat. It did not start until last night when I took some of my crushed medications. I also have pain in my uppper stomach when I breath..is this just from the band and my stomach still being swelled? Any advice would be great! I seem to be very full of gas, my stomach seems full of gas, and I am thinking that is because I am empty. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Michelle

I'm guessing the burning in your throat is being caused from the breathing tube. Mine didn't start to hurt until after I was already home from the hospital. As far as the upper pain in your stomach...it could be gas, but I think it would be better for you to call your surgeon and ask him/her. If it is gas then the best thing you can do for it is walk walk walk.
If it was burning AFTER you took your crushed medications, then you should contact your surgeon.
It could be the meds that is causing the burning and that would not be good for you or your pouch.
It can also be acid reflux, so there too, you should contact your surgeon. Either one of those conditions can be a big problem.
Good Luck

Hi, what meds did you crush up? How did you take them, did you take them in applesauce or pudding?
Are you using an incentive spirometer ( the plastic spirometer to encourage you take deep breaths)
Did you have a hiatal hernia repaired?
I had a terrible sore throat after surgery when I got home. I used Chloraseptic spray. My liquid pain meds burned my throat, soup even felt like it was burning. If you use throat lozenges, just be careful not to swallow it whole.
I had a hiatal hernia repaired and had more soreness with taking deep breaths and coughs.
The gas is because they have to instill some gas to inflate your abdomen to see. Walking will help and some say a heating pad helps. Gas x strips help more with gas in your GI system and not with the abdominal gas.
Let us know if you have any more questions! Hope you get feeling better!
