How Do You Get The Thrill Back

After reading a post by Bette, I realized I have lost my thrill as to my weigh loss journey.

I also know the loss of two sibings this past year has contributed somewhat but primarily it's my mindset.

What have you done if you found yourself in this same situation?

Thanks

Sandra

You could start by looking in the mirror and realizing you are gorgeous and then give yourself a break. What would you say if you were talking to your best friend rather than being critical of yourself, which we are all so good at. Are you exercising regularly? You know that is good for strengthening ones mood and a good first start.

Loss is difficult to say the least. I am so sorry you have had such an emotional year.

I still get positive strokes from the people I see at my gym.  Maybe not daily, but often enough.  It's sufficient to keep me going.

I also talk positively to myself.

For me, I decided to start a weight loss challenge because they've always helped in the past.  Since no one had one going, I decided to start my own.

Others here have given me a lot of tips that I am implementing too.

1)  Go back to the things you did in the beginning that worked before.
For me, this was limiting my daily calories (900 for a few days, then up it to 1200 or 1400 calories for one day, then back to 900).
Walking as much as I was able, even if it just meant walking inside the house.
Coming here for support and reading the posts.

2)  Record your calorie, protein and carb intake, use a journal or one online like DailyPlate.  I keep my total carbs around 80 or less because too many carbs slow my weight loss.

3)  Remind yourself of how far you have come and forgive yourself for sliding back into old habits.

4)  Set yourself a goal - this helps me a lot, that is why I am doing the challenge.

5)  Make yourself accountable to someone else.  It could be a friend or someone on this forum.  Some people post what they are eating each day.  In the weight loss challenge I am starting, you report your weight each week - it encourages you to stay honest with yourself and others!

6)  Remember, you will have a stall now and then, so expect them.  Also, a small gain can occur now and then due to things that are beyond your control (like TOM).

Good luck!

I lost my son and grandson. it aint easy, and only pressing forward with God can help you to come OUT. We go into a cave like state and nothing matters, but one day you simply snap back in place, it just happens somehow. I live alone, and visits with my other grands helped, but until then just maintain steady as you can. TRY to watch comedys, funny stuff, anything that will make you laugh,, somehow it releases something inside, and keep talking, chatting, blogging, singing whatever- but let it out.  Crying is good but not the only release, find alternatives- but NOT food.
paying for ya.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about and talking to my therapist about this very topic.  IMO you can't get the original thrill back.  In fact, you can't go back at all!  You need to keep moving forward and find a new passion that will give you the "thrill" or desire to carry on.  You've had a tough year and I'm terribly sorry for your loss.  Be kind to yourself and take time to loo at your before pictures often so you can remember where you came from.  After that, set small, manageable goals that will give you something to strive for without feeling defeated.

One of the things that I realized has become a new passion for me is starting my own support group with a bunch of women I met here on OH.  I find that helping newbies and paying forward through supporting others to be really rewarding and it keeps the band rules and my healthy diet in the forefront of my mind.

Think about the things that bring you joy and use those things to reward yourself.

Hang in there and never, never give up!

Best~
