Hi!  I'm new to this message forum and new to all this new information.  I have only been seeking this information for a short time.  I have a TON of questions and hoping for some answers.  Hope you all can help me make the decision to do the right thing for ME.

-What's the main difference for making the choice of LapBand vs. Gastric Bypass?
-Do both procedures prohibit sugar consumption?
-What about pasta?  Is it hard to digest?
-Couldn't you just start the diet that's suggested without the surgery and lose weight?

Just a start on my endless questions.  Thanks for any help.

I chose the lapband because it is less invasive then gastric bypass and doesn't have the malabsoriton problems. You can tolerate sugar with the band, unlike gastric bypass. Yes, pasta is hard to digest. Until I got my band loosened I couldn't eat it.
As far as following the diet without surgery, sure if you can do it you will loose weight. Honestly, I wish I had given it one more try before resorting to surgery. I hadn't tried to loose weight in years. However, I have been very successful, lost 107 pounds in about 10 months. The band hasn't been the tool I hoped it would be. I spent a lot of time either hungry or getting sick. There were a few weeks here and there I was in a really good spot. Paying for the surgery was a huge motivator to succeed. I now choose to keep my band very loose. I am mainting within 5 pounds or so of my goal weight.
Hope this helps and good luck in your decision.

Go to this link for a good overview of what to expect with several different types of WLS.
Good Luck!
