First Fill Questions

Hi Everyone!   I'm scheduled for my first fill tomorrow and I have a few questions.

I'm on my 6th week since surgery and I'm feeling great.  Will this first fill be very noticable?  And should I be on liquids tomorrow morning up to my appointment?  I remember reading something about the liquids prior to and directly after for a half day or so.  And is this going to hurt????   I'm such a baby...haha  Thanks for your feedback!!    Barb

Hi Barb,
It all depends on how aggressive your surgeon is with fills.  My signature line has my fill history.
I usually have a Greek yogurt in the morning before a fill.  I was told to eat a light meal before a fill.  I am supposed to do fluids for 24 hours and then softs for 24 hours after a fill.  I then progress cautiously with the dense protein.

My  fills didn't hurt, just a needle poke.  My port wasn't hard to find even before I lost much weight. ( I'm pear shaped. )

It took several fills before I felt a lot of difference, but after each fill I told myself to be careful and eat tiny bites and chew like crazy.

Good luck,
Kristi

My first fill wasn't very noticeable.  My doc offers a numbing shot which I took the first 2 times.  Now I just let them fill.  You will feel one slight ***** either way.  My doc says you can eat, but stop 2 hours prior to the fill.  The rest of the day liquids.
Next day mushies, then soft, then regular.  Good luck!

Barb,
Good luck with your first fill tomorrow. I really can't tell you about fills since I am about a week behind you. But I wanted to let you know I am thinking about you and I hope all goes well. Please let us know how you do.

My first fill was a bit ouchy because I was still sore from the surgery at 7 weeks out.  Since then they've been no big deal at all and my doctor does not use numbing medication.  I understand being nervous.. I was asking my local pharmacist about emla.. lol.

I'm not supposed to eat anything solid for 4 hours before my appointment, but can have all the liquids I want.

My first one wasn't much, only 1cc, but I came out of surgery with 3cc's already in place.  The 1cc was enough to dim my appetite again, but didn't give me any issues in eating anything.   But then again, I don't pu****  When I've eaten my measured amount, I stop.

You'll likely do just fine.  :)

I was so nervous for my first fill back in March.  I'm a big baby when it comes to pain, I almost passed out in the waiting room when I went to get my staples out ;)  My doc says I can eat anything until I come into the office.  My first fill was not painful but the doc had a very hard time getting my port.  He did use a numbing shot first.  It was uncomfortable and I wasn't looking forward to going back for more fills.  He put 2cc in my band because he had such a hard time.  2nd fill was a piece of cake and he only put .5cc in.
Good luck and I'm sure you will be fine!!!
