Average Weight loss on Lap band?

Good day everyone. I meet the surgeon next Thursday, July 13th about a revision. I’ve read the average weight loss is 2 to 3 pounds per week and it’s not as fast as RNY. I would like to lose at least 20 pounds per month. So, I have a few questions on my mind that I can’t wait to get answer, if someone can tell me about their experience with Lap Band.

Has anyone lost more weight than that with a proper diet and exercise?

Also, what’s the smallest size your stomach can go to with Lap Band?

Is it worth getting the surgery done as a revision? With so many failure post that I see?

Hi there! First, let me say that I'm speaking from MY personal experience. Everyone varies a little, but I feel that I had a world-class surgeon.I've not had ONE single problem/complication in 3 years.  My first year I lost a little over 100 lbs, but wasn't careful (lost motivation/got lazy..whatever you want to call it) and gained a few lbs back ((less than 10)...still haven't reached my goal, but that is STRICTLY MY FAULT--I do not blame my band whatsoever!! On the contrary, I thank God I have my "Governor" around my stomach that will not let me Mass Consume, as I had always been infamously known for in the past!  I have not been doing MY job (shame on me!!)  If you have your band adjusted correctly, you WON'T be able to overeat, and you also won't be "sliming" and getting acid reflux all the time either. It'll be a very happy medium: you eat/chew correctly, and in the correct amounts, and your band will treat you right. But you can't expect to be a Reeses freak like me and eat empty calories (big slap on the hand! ) and melt pounds either! Uuugh! Where'd my willpower go? Anyway, I'm working on that, lol.  Overall, I think the band is just as productive a tool as any other WLS out there, you just have to WORK WITH IT the same as you do with the others, as NO surgery will be successful for you long term if you don't eat correctly and excercise. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide.

 I'm averaging a 1 1/2 lbs a week with the lap band. I walk about 2 miles a day at least 4 days/week.
I'm not rushing my weight loss. Slow and steady wins the race. For me it is important to give myself the time to learn better eating habits, and not worry about how fast my weight comes off. Most lap banders experience a slower weight loss, but not always. I am confident that I did the right thing and that the scale and my %body fat is coming down slowly. I wanted to lose 100 lbs over 2 years....I'm way ahead of that goal....I'm so grateful for my band!

20lbs a month is an extremely aggressive target and in my mind by setting such big expectations you are setting yourself up for frustration and ultimately failure. The band does not make the pounds fall off - as many of the veterans here post frequently, it is a tool and it is up to you to make it work for you (look at it this way a hammer doesn't hammer nails in by itself, you have to pick up the hammer and work it).   Aside from initial weight loss due to liquid diets, the typical weight loss with the band is 1-2 lbs per week.  Setting goals that reflect this is a lot more effective than setting aggressive goals.   Here are some guidelines for setting goals that I find helpful - they are referred to as SMART goals

Specific  - (ie 1-2lbs per week)
Measureable  - you can get on the scale and measure  or use a tape measure for inches
Achievable - they have to be something that YOU can achieve yourself
Realistic - based on all the knowledge you have - you have to have a realistic chance of success
Timely - there should be  time frame around them (my current one is 15 pounds by labour day)

Good luck with your appointment. It sounds like you have good motivation, you may need to adjust how realistic your expectations are though.

is this a revision to a previous RNY?  If so I think the laband will help you contol your portions.
I have the older version lapband system band which hold 4cc and am at 3.6cc my doctor will not tighten past that but this is a good fill for me.  I had my surgery May 2007 and have lost 95lbs over 4 years it is definetly slower, it was faster in the beginning but I don't think I lost 20lbs a month maybe 15 tops.
Hope this helps  i would definetly do it again

I feel like 20 pounds a month is unrealistic. If your very heavy, and do all the right things, you may loose at that rate initially but I don't think it will last. I strongly suggest you set a more attainable goal. You don't want to set yourself up to fail.
I lost 2-4 pounds a week, about 10 pounds a month. I ate lowcarb/lowfat/high protien and workout about 5 days a week.

I think 20lbs/mth is unrealistic too.  I'm about 4mos out and I've lost *almost* 50% of my excess weight.  My doc is thrilled with this as am I.  I think the average my doc talked about with the band is that most people lost 50% of their excess weight in a year.  The next 50% varies greatly from person to person.

I have never heard of anyone losing 20 lbs a month, every month.  I was told the average is 1-2 lbs per month.  I have lost 150 lbs and the biggest one month loss I had was 16 lbs.  Otherwise, I lost the normal amount each month, and plateaued once in while not losing anything for 2-3 weeks.  I think your expectations will be more accurate after your meeting with the surgeon.

I lost 100 pounds in 14 months... and tho I had a minor blimp I'm getting back down.. and I have kept 90 pounds off for over a year..

I have lost a decent amount of weight in the past but never kept it off... I have kept 90 pounds off for over a year.. I'm thrilled with my band.

Good Luck
