I did it!

Last week (pre surgery), I was "scared out of my mind".  Well, I had the surgery on Friday.  I am feeling ok now.  In a bit of pain (and no more Oxycodone!!!), but otherwise ok.  I am getting my 60 grams of protein, but am constipated.  No BM since Friday.  I am about to start Miralax.  Anyway, I just wanted to post to say thanks to those who encouraged me.  I realized Thursday  that I was grieving food and scared that surgery would change me.  I can still have good food without overindulging.  In any event, just wanted you all to know I made it to the otherside.  Now comes the hard part...

Congratulations!!!  Sounds like you're off to a great start.

We all went through the grieving process with food.  Food has been such a major part of our lives for so long.  Five months out, I have come to realize that I didn't have to end my relationship with certain foods, but the relationship just had to change.  I can still treat myself to some foods like dessert or whatever, but just once in awhile, and not go crazy with it.

Just take each day at a time.  And welcome to the loser's bench.  The view from this side is amazing...

Glad you are doing well! I think grieving food is a normal thing.

Congrats to you!! I think a common misconception is that the band will fix all woes. There are four equal parts to the success of a band, or so I have been led to believe.
1. Diet
2. Exercise
3. The band
4. You

The surgery does change us, but I hope for you a positive change full of exciting milestones. I did not encourage you last week, was in surgery myself, but I am here to do so now.

Congrats on your surgery!  Just take it one day at a time.  It's a lot of work, but so worth the effort!

It is great to welcome you to the losers bench! You have a difficult journey ahead of you but you will be so happy with the results. Yes, you will change, your relationship with food will change, your body will change, and your attitude will change, if you allow it. Change is tough but as Kristi said, take it one day at a time. When you feel as if you can't take one more day of the liquid diet or what ever phase you are in at the time, just remember that you don't have to keep that up forever. It is just one more day. I would decide I could do one more day even if it was white knuckle and somehow I made it through. Other changes will come easier, thankfully. Enjoy the journey and be sure to notice the small victories. Congratulations.

Congratulations on your surgery!  Take it easy, eventhough you're feeling great you need to go slow and give your body time to heal.

I use Milk of Magnesia for the constipation.  Find what works and stick to it.  Constipation will continue to be an issue all through your banded life because of the high protein diet but if you do something daily like add soluable fiber to your food or beverages you'll be fine.  Don't wait until you go 2 or 3 day's!

Keep coming here to get help and ideas as you adjust.  We're here for you!

Congrads!!  The constipation has to do with both lower intake of liquids and pain meds.  Talk to your doc about what to take because that can be very painful if left untreated!  ugh.  I think most of us have been there.

Keep drinking and I know what you mean about the grieving food thing.  It gets easier when your appetite decreases and you know you can't eat that kind of food anymore.   I was on the road with family the other day and we stopped and they all got subs from wa-wa  ( that was my weakness in the past), I got a yogurt and it didn't bother me a bit.   In fac****ching them chow down them things kinda grossed me out.  haha.

Good luck to you.  If that road is bumpy ahead, just hang on tighter ( my road is bumpy but I am still hanging in there). :)

 Congrats!!!!
I still have small twinges of pain around the puncture sites, but everything is completely healed on the outside. I'm 7 weeks post op.  I had to break down and do an enema due to the same situation.  Totally helped and wow I felt so much better.  No I take colace a few times a day especially when you have to be on liquids for a few days due to fills and such.  And no issues.  Back on regular food and everything gets back to normal.  Sometimes just takes a bit longer than expected.  Good luck on the yellow brick road to a new you!!
