I have been doing great since my surgery on May 23rd. Lately I have been having a burning muscle type pain about 6 inches below my port site. I was wondering if maybe doing a little more lifting (around the house not even at the the gym) could have caused a problem it didn't hurt to bad just noticeable in the morning but would go away. Now this weekend I did do a big no no and helped my husband hump all the lumber we needed to build a deck from the store to in the truck and now the pain is pretty bad. i have a hard time sitting straight up form a laying position. if I remain still I am OK but if I do ANYthing involving my abdominal muscles it just BURNS even to touch the area is painful. I am concerned and am going to call the office tomorrow but i was wondering if anyone else had OVER done it too close out of surgery and had a similar experience.

I am sorry that you are having such pain and it does sound as though you did too much. I think that you are doing the correct thing in calling your Doctor. Please keep us updated on what the Dr. has to say. Best of luck.

Good thing to call your doctor tomorrow.  I'm guessing you just pushed it a bit too hard.  Some postops never even notice they have a port.  Some of us had a steady reminder of our port for the first few months.

Keep in mind that the surgeon had to go through your belly to get the scopes in, the tools for the port, and the tools for the band itself.  That means they had to go through the belly fat as well as the abdominal muscles.  So essentially, you have some pretty major abdominal muscle strains going on in there.  Those can take anywhere from a month to three months to heal - depending on if the doctors orders on postop lifting are followed.   That said, it ain't easy.  Especially when you start feeling normal and then do something that reminds you, "Oh yeah, I shouldn't of done that."

Good luck tomorrow, and keep us posted?

I will check in with the Dr. I noticed it when I began resuming normal duties such as carrying laundry baskets up and down stairs, but boy afer lifting all the hevy lumber with my hubby I am in alot of pain now. Going to take some ibuprophin to see if it helps. I notice it more when I bend over to pick something up or even when I lie on my right side (it's my left side the pain is happening) it does feel like a tear so I am hoping maybe if I take it easy I will heal up Ok. I am scheduled to get my first fill on the 14th and I don't want to not have that part done and I promise I will get the hubby pr someomne else to do the lifing for a bit longer and of course follow the Dr's recommendations when I call them tomorrow. It was just scary becasue this is more pain the what I had right after the surgery!! I bent over to put the dog's water dish down and I was in tears. It goeas away pretty quickly and I do notice it more if I lengthen the abdominal muscle on that side (stretch). thanks for the kind words and i will keep you posted!!!

Def call your doctor. I know I was not allowed to do heavy lifting for a while. I hope you feel better!

Yes I over did it so I have to take it easy for a bit :( I wasn't even thinking lifiting all that crap but I sure felt it the next day. I went to the gym tonight and did some walking/jogging and even that I am a little sore so I think I should take it easy bu i do not want to give up the exercise so I supposed walking only is in order.
