sorry another is this normal question
My band was inserted in 2005. I recall having a significant amount of port pain. It bothered me most when I drove and when I sat in my chair at work. I had to place a soft stuffed animal on my left side to help guard it. Throughout the years, as I became thinner, certain activities aggravated the port site- especially some of the exercises the trainer would give me at the gym. It is possible that the pain you had from the air in your shoulder masked the pain in the port region. I just had to have my band removed and have discomfort where the port was. It is a foreign body that is sitting in the left side of abdomen.

I vomited all the time right from the beginning. I never shared that, however, because it helped with the weight loss. As a nurse, though, I knew eventually it would be very unhealthy. I work where we have a bariatric program and mentioned it to the head of the program. She insisted I see a surgeon. They told me the band was placed too high but refused to revise it. Finally, I changed insurance companies and went to a new surgeon. A GI doc told me it slipped. The surgeon stated that the pouch was in the esophagus and I was at risk of erosion. He did surgery immediately and told me it had slipped, as well. That is my story.

Hey there,
I had pain in the port area from it being sewn into the muscle. I learned to think of it more as an annoyance. It lasted a few months and then suddenly I noticed it just wasn't there anymore. When you think about it - a tear in a muscle is a "muscle strain". You've just had something sewn into your abdominal muscle. It was more painful for me cuz my abdominal muscles just sucked as it was. Adding the sewn in port to the mix was a pretty strong reminder I needed to start working on my upper body strength (or lack thereof
) as soon as the doctor said it was okay. Seriously? I couldn't even do a few situps at first.
And please - don't worry about asking these questions... that is the great thing about this board! There's others on here who have likely been through what you have and want to help. then there are the postops in your situation who may not want to ask & are happy you posted the question, and the pre-ops who will not be so freaked out if they have port pain cuz they'll have remember reading your post.
p.s. I would usually have port muscle pain for a day or two after my fills as well.
Enjoy your new life!!!

I have had my band a year and my port will occasionally get a little sore or I will get a twinge of discomfort if I hit it or move a certain way or like when I am bending over to clean the tub etc. it will get a little sore. I think it is just one of those things that goes along with the band. If it is really sore or painful I would call the Dr but if it is not really painful I would just file it under still healing and not worry about it.:) At 16 days out you are still healing and the port was the last place of all my scars to heal and not be sore.
