HELP-I need Suggestions
I have no fill in my 10cc band. It had to be taken out. I have developed Lupus in the
past year. I am not doing well with the band with the autoimmune. I would get a fill then take it out.
This went on for about 15 months. And when the Doc put me on prednizone for 9 months
I gained 40 lbs and now with no fill at all I gained another 10lbs.
I had lost a total of 100lbs.
The Doc felt that the band should come out and then do the Sleeve.
My ins denied the procedures. I was to have the surgery on 6/15.
I am so depressed, disgusted and I feel so horrible about myself with this weight gain.
I worked so hard at taking the weight off.
So I have no restriction at all Now.
Please any suggestions as maybe a diet to follow. I just don't know what to do.
When I am feeling like this, you know what happens, you want to eat.
Please, some help.

i am so sorry to hear the stress and pain you are going thru. The good news is that I'm sure you have learned better eating habits. For me, I found a recovery program for compulsive overeaters very helpful like OA (overeaters anonymous) which is a spiritual program and not a religious one. There you find people to help you on your journey. You get a sponsor, you turn over your food, and you make goals for yourself. Find a great nutritionist to help you make a meal plan right for you.

I am glad you have suggested a 12 step program for food. I have been in the program for many years and would not have been able to stick with the food plan without the support of my sponsor etc. It is a huge help with what the forum calls "head hunger" I call them emotions that want to surface that we are in the habit of shoving down with food.
I am in "onderland" having lost 72# since surgery and 92 from my top weight. I am grateful that there is one more tool---my band---to help me arrest this disease.
Best wishes for continued recovery

Are you able to keep up physical activity? If you could exercize, and keep to the 3 oz or 1/2 cup protein, 1/4 cup veggies and 1/4 carbs, plus add a couple of snax between meals. Which is basically the program plus snax (my doc really doesn't want me to do snax, but I can't seem to live without at least 1 or 2). And keep a log, my downfall though I KNOW I should. Add the OA meetings as a support group. Would that work or you?
I'm so sorry you're going through this! Prednisone is a pain when you're trying to lose weight!
Don't give up on the Sleeve if that's what you want to do. Appeal your insurance company. Your surgeon and your PCP should help you by writing letters, etc.
Make sure you are addressing the emotional side of this roller coaster ride. Get therapy to help you deal with the emotional eating and depression. It will really help you if you're willing to try.
You've lost it before, you can do it again, so give yourself a break and hopefully with time you'll be able to try a small fill until you figure out what the possibilities are for a revision.
Hang in there and NEVER give up!

Ugg prednisone is the worst! I'm just finishing up a taper now after being in the hospital with pneumonia so I hear ya. We have to remember that life happens, sometimes we just have to hang on till the bumpy ride is over. I've had my band emptied for 2 mos. now and have managed to stay the same weight, nope it isn't easy and even if I gain a few pounds that's OK for now. The only way I can keep control is to be diligent about logging my food choices. Don't just give up because you have no fill, you still have some control over what and how much you eat, we aren't victims we do have control to some degree. This might be the time to just coast for awhile, try to maintain bandster eating habits and try to get some exercise. While you are doing that keep pushing for that sleeve, the lupus can be a good reason to revise because your body can't tolerate the band. Just remember to be kind to yourself and do what you can, then just let the rest happen. Come back here for supoort we are always here for you.
