I have been back to work for one week after having a month off to heal from my surgery. While I was off I went to the gym 6 days a week excited to work out. Now that I am back to work (I have a very physical job) I drive right by the gym everyday on the way home. I actually have my gym clothes in the SUV so I can go there directly after work. I have made an excuse everyday that I am too tired. I am off of work today and I just had the best workout. Can some of you vets give me some advice, hints or suggestions? I am down 27 lbs in 5 weeks, eating healthy but this one thing that I sooooo need is hard for me. Help

I am the same way. I can not go after work. I had to make myself get up early and go to the gym before work. I take my clothes and shower at the gym and head to work. This was my routine before surgery and in September that is what I will do. The first week or two is hard but you get use to getting up earlier and then you start going to bed earlier.

Thanks. I guess I should have added that my shift at the post office starts at 4:30am. Before work is not an option. Maybe I need to look into bidding on later hours:)

I am like you I get up early to go to work and there is no way I am waking up at 3-4am in the morning to workout.  So I have to go after work.  It's not always easy.  I work lots of overtime and work about 10-12 hours a day.

Everyone has what works best for them.  I always workout right after work.  I told myself from the beginning I will not make any excuses.  Because if I make one excuse leads to another and each one becomes easier and easier and it becomes harder and harder to workout.  So I never allowed myself to make excuses.  I know it sounds dumb but I just made my mind up to never give in and not go workout.  I also workout on Saturday.  It's actually harder for me to go to gym on Saturday then it is to go during the week.  Just because of laziness.

I guess it's really a state of mind.  You need to set goals and motivate yourself.  After losing 150 lbs...it's very easy for me to get motivated.  I would say try to make it as enjoyable as possible.  Some people like workout buddies...some like to workout solo.  I am sure after you get into the swing of things you will be doing great.  Good luck.

Thank you for your response. I will stop making excuses.....this is how I got in this way. Also, making up your mind to do something does not sound dumb....you just helped me tremendously!!!!!

I don't let myself miss exercise 2 days in a row -- period.

So, if I want to 'slack off' today, I HAVE to work out tomorrow.

I never want to go into the gym, but I always feel better once I have been there.

these days, I get up early and walk/run in the mornings (it is over 100 degrees here every day by 10am and stays hot until after 10pm -- so, early morning is the only time of day that works for me).

is ur gym 24 hours? if it is...then take ur fully packed gym bag.. (water, mp3 player etc) ALONG WITH YOUR HOUSE KEY to the gym and put it in a locked locker before you go to work. Then you have no choice but to go to the gym after work...

One trick is to schedule an appointment with yourself on your calendar and treat it as any other appointment that you need to keep.
When I include exercise in my schedule, it helps me keep a perspective on what my week is going to look like and what I activities can say "NO" to, because I have an appointment with myself!
This is also good if you have an electronic calendar because you can send the appointment notice to family members and others who may need to know what is on your schedule.
Best of luck!
