I am still pretty new here but i have to vent and i know that you guys will understand...

So I am in the process of getting all of my clearances so I can have WLS. Well My husband and I are going through a rough time right now and long story short he thinks this is a bad idea and I'm taking the EASY way out. This ****** me off to no end because this is NOT by ANY means an easy way out. I am doing what I feel is necessary to be healthy.Yes, It is a risky surgery, yes there is a possibility of complications, but this is a risk I am willing to take so I can be healthy again. I have been struggling with my weight for the past 7 years and I am just tired of fighting what I feel like is a loosing battle with weight. I don't have a lot of comorbidies but I do have fibromyalgia and I need to do anything I can to have more energy. I am a FABULOUS big girl and I do love my curves and am not looking to be skinny by any stretch of the imagination I just want to be healthy so I can be around to raise my son. How the hell am I suppposed to go thru this when he tells me that he doesn't agree with it but he will be there to help/support me after I have it?? Sorry for rambling but i just really needed to vent to people that I know understand what I'm going thru

Hi Bette! I read that a few days ago when you reposted it but it still pissed me off,lol I just want so badly for him to understand and know that he will be there to help me out after i have the surgery. And i don't want him to be throw in my face if for some reason i do have complications which i know is a very realistic possibility. Maybe i need to go read over your essay again since i am actually dealing with the situation right now,lol

Bette's essay was EXCELLENT.  Maybe you should have your husband read it...

People that make that comment aren't very educated about the band.  Of all the surgeries this surgery relies more on the person to lose weight than the surgery itself.

I have to watch what I eat every day and I exercise about 9-10 hours a week...that certainly doesn't sound like the easy way out to me.  The people that are close to me and have watched me through my journey saw and still see how hard I work to lose this weight and would never say that.  I try not to let it bother me.  Recently, someone did make that "easy way out" comment and I told her "yes your right this band loses all the weight for me.  The fact I exercise 9-10 hours a week has nothing to do with my weight loss at all!!!"  I turned and left her standing there like an idiot.  Don't let your husband bring you down.  You are doing this for you.  Good luck on your journey!!!!

Thanks!

This is the exact reason that i chose to have this type of surgery. I want to still be responsible and have to work out.Not saying that any other surgery i just think that this would be more helpful to ME.

You could tell me that you NOT take "The Easy Way" out, keep getting heavier, getting sicker, which would lead to you leaving this life - and his! - earlier.

Or, you could just let him yap and ignore him.

Kim, my husband was not exactly gung-ho about me having surgery, either.  He thought it was very drastic, and why didn't I just try Weigh****chers one more time, since I had some good success with it before.  I told him that I could lose weight on my own, but I needed the band to help me keep it off.   Yes, having surgery is a big deal, but I've been battling my weight my whole adult life, and I'm on meds for high blood pressure.  Diabetes runs in my family, and I know that if I can maintain a healthy weight, I can reduce my chances of getting it.  I felt like I had to do something major, to get control of my health, before things get any worse.

Having the lap band is definitely NOT "the easy way out," by any stretch of the imagination.  You will have to be mindful of your eating for the rest of your life.  You will have to be active and work out.  The band is only a tool.  It's YOU who will be doing the work.

Now I've been banded for 18 months, and I'm halfway to my goal.  Once I started moving down into smaller clothing sizes and getting more energy, my husband came around, and is now quite supportive.  He can barely keep his paws off of me these days.

Good luck to you!!!

Terri

Hi Terri!! Totally off topic but I noticed that your Surgeon is Dr. Duncan and I do believe he will be doing my surgery too!! I would love to know how your experience was with them. I had my first appt on the 16th of last month and everyone seemed pretty nice.

Back on topic, lol Thanks for the encouragement. I am just so torn because i just don't want to do something that is going to push us apart but i feel that this is what i need to do to gain my health back.
