Cross! Ridiculous book

I don't read many chick lit books but got caught bookless and picked up a book by Jane Green. Not too bad as far as style and story go except for the basic ridiculous weightest image.

Heroine is a woman in late 20s. Everyone's best friend but doesn't expect the glamour an excitement of life of her best friend because she is over-weight. Slims down. Life becomes wonderful. Hmmm!

Well, OK. Not pc but when I was over weight that is how I felt. So I can see she might have felt that way, behaved that way etc.

But here's the thing. As she lost weight she became prettier, yes, again, OK? Her eyes seemed larger as the folds of fat disappeared. Yup, still not too bad.

BUT and here it comes, this obese, quivering mass of lard weighed, wait for it, not 400lbs, not 300lbs but under 200lbs.

WHAT???

Kate.

On the contrary. Later described as " willowy" after loss. Not a word you use for a vertically challenged person! She wore when so enormous uk size 16 clothes. That is the equivalent of US size 14 !!!

In a group therapy session years ago, one of the other women moaned about her weight gain and said, "I"ll just DIE if I have to wear a size 12!"

Reminds me of Bridgit Jones Diary.  Being overweight is such an issue and I can remember stories of the actress who plays her, I can't remember her name, complaining of gaining so much weight.  I think she got up to like 140 lbs for the role!  Yes, it's a big gain if you normally weigh 100 lbs, but please, my goal weight isn't that low.  That's not fat.  I guess it's all perspective.
