3 years banded & having left side port pain
My left side port pain has been there for at least 6 months. In the last month the pain has been getting worst. It hurts with food and without food. It will just hurt without any pressure on it. I have to drink ho****er with every meal. I have had the same fill for 2 years. No change with my port fill. I have my re-check visit for Aug. 25. I need some advice from my fellow Lap Band friend before I see the doctor.

I don't think its a good idea to wait for your recheck. Is the port site red or feverish? That could mean a port infection. I had two of those and finally had to have my port taken out completely. I was 1 year out with the first one and over 4 years out with the second one.
Any kind of pain could mean a slip or erosion. You really shouldn't wait to see the doctor. He may want to do a fluroscope or even an endoscope to make sure all is well.
Everything is fixable but if its a bigger problem, it just means you may have to have surgery to remove the problem (band or port) and give your body time to heal before you have anything put back in.
IF INSURANCE PAID.....please be sure to check with them and make sure they STILL pay before you have any surgery. I had my first port removed only to find out that when it was time to have it replaced, my insurance company no longer covered bariatric surgery. I had to file an appeal to get approval.

I have the scar on my skin, but it doesn't look red. An infection could be possible or a foreign body irritation. When you had it removed did you consider a different procedure? Like VSG? My insurance has changed to a PPO and I faxed my new ins card to my doctors office to get my insurance benefits. I was wondering if they will cover an alternate procedure. I have been researching VSG. My weight lost with the Lap Band has been very poor.

Revision was never mentioned to me when I had subsequent surgeries. I have recently thought about the VSG but I just don't think I could do surgery again. I've just had too many problems. And I've seen people with all types of wls and some have done amazingly well and others have gained it all back while still others have maintained for some time.
I lost a total of 92 pounds with the band. I think I told you that. And I think I told you I've found 60 of those again. What a disappointment.
I'm going to say if you don't see any red around your scar, you don't have an infection. And I'm going to say that at this far out, you probably don't have a foreign body irritation either.
But I would call the doctor and try to get in to see him soon. Better safe than sorry.

So, you're saying you had your band filled 2 years ago and haven't had it filled since, right? But the port pain started about 6 months ago out of nowhere. No injury was sustained in that area that you recall?
The port is just the access to the band, you realize, right? I mean, the saline doesn't stay in the port... it travels through the port, into the tubing and tightens the band. That is what was confusing me in your wording, I guess.
Good luck. Hope you get it fixed up.
