If you've had a hernia/gall bladder issues post band can you share what your problems were like? (Bette - I think you've had your gallbladder removed after band right?).

I saw my band doctor today to talk about a revision and he's ordering tests to see if we can find out what's going on with me.

I'm having problems with acid reflux, food being stuck in the throat, pain across the right side (shoulder and neck area) and a few other odds and ends. I have a feeling that I will be having surgery soon and get to reschedule some planned travel to Nebraska.

Thanks guys and gals!

I have had issues with an umbilical hernia. I had it repaired once since my banding but something must have happened and it is still giving me a lot of issue so Monday July 11 , I am getting it repaired again.  I haven't had any issues with my gall bladder yet. I pray that I don't.

Two times in the last month I have had acid come up in my throat when I was in bed. Both of those times I drank strawberry milk right before I went to bed but other then that no issues.

Good luck with testing. I know it has to be nerving.

I had to have my gall bladder taken out after my lapband surgery. I had gall stones beforehand but when I started losing weight they really started bothering me. So I had it taken out last December around Christmas. I feel MUCH better.

I hope everything works out for you and that you will get better! :)

Gall bladder issues are typical is my understanding. There seems to be a high rate of gall bladder removals post-op.  My hernia was repaired when my band was put in.  Have you developed one after surgery?

I was originally banded in '07 and had my gall bladder removed a few months after that - I had gall stones.

Last week, I had a hiatal hernia repair because my surgeon did not repair it when he first put the band in.  My new surgeon fixed the hernia, replaced the band and gave me a gastric plication.

Bands and hiatal hernias do not mix.  If that is what you have, I would push for a revision rather than a repair because there is no guarantee that fixing the hernia and leaving the band in with work in the long run.

I had a hiatel hernia after my first band.

I agree with Phyllis. Try and push for a revision rather then a second band.  When replacing an original band with a second band..... surgeons are forced to place the band higher up the stomach.due to scar tissue formation from the original band placement.
Placing the second band in the incorrect spot causes you to become unpleasantly tighter and you end up not being able to tolerate your fills. This is not the intended place for the band which in and of itself causes the band to work inefficiently...
Not only can this cause problems further down the road, but having a second band placed puts you at an even greater risk of having that band slip.
