Couch to 5K?

I am down now to 206 from 245.  I really want to push ahead and get down to my first goal of 175.  I know that part of being healthy is to get my rear end out there and exercise.  I walk for 30-45 minutes with not much problem.  However, I know to continue on my weight loss journey successfully I am going to need to push myself harder.  I have always had a desire to run, but at my starting weight of 245, it was really uncomfortable to do.  I heard of Couch to 5K.  Has anybody at my weight done this program?  I am really considering it to help me reach my exercise goals.  What is your opinion on the program?  Were you successful with it?  Thanks!

My friend did it at about your weight. The trainer said go at your pace. If your not ready to move to the next stage do that stage a few more days then move on. It might take a bit longer but she did it. I think it took her about an extra week.

that's what i did to jump start my jogging... now I'm in training to complete a 10 mile race at the end of August.  I started jogging when I was about 225 pounds and honestly it was accelerated my weight loss!  I am now below goal because of my training.  Good luck to you!

Jan

all the weight has been lost post-op..I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

highest weight: 333 pounds (I know I gained after my last "weigh in" in the doctors office so probably it's more like 340 pounds)
current weight: 151 pounds (7/12/11)
I've been at goal (165 pounds) for 6 months now and now on maintence.  I tend to go up and down depending on time of the month and such!

Thank you ladies so much!  I am for sure going to give it a shot.  I have always wanted to run and enjoy it.  Hopefully this will help get my fanny in gear!

cristie,

I haven't done that program, but I have started running/jogging for 30-45 sec at a time.  Its not much but I love it, because I too have always had a goal of running.  I want to run so bad.  I don't care how long it takes I'm gonna get there!!  I work w/ a lot of people that run, and they say the same thing, go at your pace, because something is better then nothing.  You have the "want" and thats half the battle.

Lets keep each other updated on our progress!!

Good luck and cheers to running!!

I have three work friends who have done it and one just completed a marathon!! the other two have also done races and marathons. My co-worker *****cently completed the marathon, lost 50 lbs doing Couch-to-5K.
I'm planning on doing it when I've lost a bit more. However, I've NEVER wanted to run (wish I did). I also have arthritis in both knees and no cartilage in one, so I might not exactly "run" as much as walk really, really fast
Also, check out itunes. There's a bunch of free running music designed to help you pace yourself (music gets quicker and slower) called PodRunner. Might be useful for you.
Good luck!
