FRUSTRATED....need advice

Hi everybody,

I have not been on this forum in a really long time. I now return frustrated and in need of advice. I had my lap band done exactly 11 months ago and I have lost 90 pounds. I am very proud of these 90 pounds but I have to be honest and tell you that I have not lost weight in 3 months and I am ready to give up. Don't get me wrong, my eating has not been nearly as good as it was in the beginning but I still do no carbs/sugar and get my protein in. My problem has been with snacking and social drinking and eating.

I also exercise a lot. I play soccer, do zumba, hike, run and walk so I am hoping that I have been building muscle. Everybody says I look so great but I don't feel great. I am in a size 12 down from a 22...and I am so happy about that but this standstill is killing me. I wanted so badly to be under 200 pounds by my 1 year anniversary and that is not a possibility at this point.

I need motivation so if you have any, please share.

Thanks for listening,

Kalina

As for motivation... sometimes I get a lot of motivation when I watch shows like the biggest loser or what's the one that's one right now?  Extreme weight loss, I think???

But really you are doing GREAT!!!!!  You can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just had my RNY on 7.2.12!!!!  WOOHOO!!!!!

You can't "give up", this is for life...

They say when the scale stops, you need to change things around.  Do some different exercise, eat some different foods etc.   You have to decide if you are happy where you are at, then keep doing what you have been doing, if not, eat less, drink less calorie drinks.  I know it sounds simple, but we all know it's not.

You have lost 90 pounds, that's a lot of weight.  Congrats!

Kali your one of the more successful bandsters. Most don't lose that much in 11 mos.

Kalina,

You've done really well so far.  The scale is not the only measure of success.  We should also measure success by smaller clothing (12's and over 200?? you must be tall!!), increased energy, coming off medications, etc. etc.

When my weight loss slows to where I'm not happy with the rate,  I have to kick my exercise up a notch by doing even MORE than my regular routine.   I  work out a minmum of 90 minutes a day and often 2 hours.   I recently added bootcamp 3x a week.  I will only do it for about a month because it's so stressful on my knees.   In about a month or two (when my knees say it's ok..LOL) .. I'll do another one or add an evening exercise class to my morning routine.

You might also see if you need a little tiny tweak to the fluid in your band.  I'm to the point where my fills are 6 months or more apart now, but at 1 year I was still getting .2cc's about every other month.

Don't let the fact that you might not make 100 by 1 year get you down.  90 in one year is FABULOUS!!!   You're rocking that band!!   (btw, you look positively thin in your profile pic.. good job)

I would focus on the drinks. It's a diet killer. They have lots of calories and reduce your inhibitions so you are more likely to eat things not on your plan. That being said, you are doing very well. 90 pounds in 11 months is excellent!

Hi Kalina

I can imagine how frustrating that is - I had my surgery just over 10 months ago and my goal was to lose 100 pounds in the first year - Iam down 87 pounds and I have just come off a 3 week plateu, I know it doesn't compare to 3 months but what I did to get it going was change what I was doing.  I read about what other people are eating and tried new things and I have added different exercises.  Don't give up and don't tie yourself to a timeline - try something different and watch the scale start again.

Take care & good luck,

Lori

Kali,
Just step on the scale so you don't gain any weight instead of stepping on it to lose weight.

Hang in there!  It gets frustrating at times.  My weight loss has been extremely slow.  It has taken me 3 years to lose 110 lbs, but I am so proud of those pounds, and my body is soooo much better off.  I have another 100 to go, and it may take me three more years, but that's okay!  My advice is to limit your drinking (lots of empty calories) and focus on what you HAVE accomplished!  BTW, to be over 200 and in a size 12 is awesome!!!! You most likely do have a high muscle mass.  Good luck!

Leslie
