How much is too much or too little? Can it really affect your weightloss if you sleep too much? How much should someone try to get?

"they " say getting enough well rested sleep helps prevent you from overeating during the day to try and stay awake.  Which relates to weight loss.  I always try to get 6 hours no matter what.  Going to bed at the same time every night helps.  Though, everyone is different with their sleeping habits. I know sometimes I feel amazing after 9 hours, and sometimes I feel like I could still sleep for days.  Test yourself.  For 2 weeks get a solid 8 hours.  See how you feel each day and log your moods and such.  then try 7 hours for 2 weeks and do the same.  But try and go to bed same time each time-only adjust your morning wakeup.  Drs and experts are constantly changing their minds about everything.  Just do a trial and error to see what works for you.  Everyone requires something different.  My true sweet spot is 7.5 hours of sleep-uninterrupted.  the next day I feel great and feel the need to stay active and my energy levels during the day are decent.  I just can't always replicate that pattern every day.  Good luck!!!

I was just wondering because as of right now I'm getting about 12 hours haha. I know that's too much but when I wake up eariler I feel like...I'm so exhausted. I don't know what to do.

make an appointment to discuss this with your PCP ---- it can be a sign of depression and other medical issues.

12 hours of sleep is excessive

I do my best on about 7 hours --

12 hours is mainly because I'm really bored lol. It's the summer time and I don't have school so I have like nothing to do!

I'm so jealous!  I've taken something to sleep for the last 20 years, and try to keep it to a minimum in dosage.  My sweet spot seems to be about 7 hours, to function well.  As a teenager, I could sleep 12 hours on the weekends, and my mom would let me!  Not since I had kids.  It seemed to change something in my sleep mechanisms.
