Sorry about the spelling.  Why does it sometimes get tight (like in spasm) when I begin to eat ? I ate baked fish last night and it became tight right away.  I'm eating slow enough and chewing, chewing !  Other times the it doesn'nt happen.  Like when I eat steak.  I haven't had a fill in 3 months.  I have a appointment beginning of July.
Any input is greatly appreciated !

Thank You,
Tracy

That is the nature of the beast with the band, you can minimize this by starting your meals with warm liquids like hot tea, or soup, also if I am eating out at restaurants I will chew a few papaya tablets, 1-2 prior to a meal and this will prevent those unexpected esophageal spasms, sometimes the esophagus has to loosen up .

Remember you got a RESTRICTIVE SURGERY, that is the payoff, restriction is never going to be perfect or predicable since the band is a foreign object filled with saline and it will change depending on several factors, stress, higher elevations, mentrals cycles..etc, once you get to learn your band and know the tightness levels for a particular day it will come second nature.

Tracy,

Some of us have what's called "First Bite Syndrome".  I experience this also, but not everytime.  It's like the first bite or two really doesn't want to go down, but if you try again about 20 minutes after that, it's good to go.  I know some people say to try drinking something warm like hot tea, coffee or warm broth to get everything loosened up.  Try this and see if helps.

The band is a fickle witch.   If I'm eating out, I always order hot tea or maybe soup to help loosen the band and avoid possible problems.

Love this definition! Perfect description... the band is unpredictable.!
Great turn of the phrase.
Cheers.

LOL - esophagus. Now, write it a hundred times.

I'm not certain why it happens, either, and why it occurs so randomly. (shrugs) Just like with the band, I guess.
