Hi....I am curently planing a revision from SRVBG to  a band mine will have to be open,...but my husbands has already been approved for a lap ban (no revision first time for him, my question is  is it realistic to think he could be back at work in 10 days...he is a maintenance mechanic. tell me your recovery stories...(but dont scare us lol)

My recovery was a piece of cake. I was up and about pretty quickly. I am lucky in that I have a very high pain tolerance and react really well to anasthesia. I took some pain meds the first couple days- I figured why be uncomfortable. I don't work, so that wasn't an issue for me. I tend to think a minimum of 10 days since his job is probably pretty physical. Everyone heals differently so it's really hard to say. He may want to take the 10 days off but let them know at his job that he may need a few more days. Good luck to both of you!

I agree. Depends on your pain tolerance and of course your job. I had a revision to a band and also a hernia repair on Thursday and I went into work today.

I think the 10 days off will be good as long as he doesn't have to lift when he goes back to work. I am 8 days out and have some touble bending to pick something up off the floor.

Me too. Picking stuff up is the worst. I might be getting some fines in NYC as picking up after my dogs has been tough the last 48hrs.

With my band procedure, I was out for about 4 weeks. I took one week vacation, one week of plant shut down ( for Christmas) and two weeks of disability. I was glad I  had all that time off. I was sore, and I felt like I really needed the rest.
Best,

I just went back to work this past Thursday and I was out for a month. I work for the postal service and my job is very physical with alot of heavy lifting. I had a 30 day 20 lb. weight limit and that kept me home.

If your husband is a maintenance mechanic, I would think 10 days should be enough, but I caution you to let him know that he should not be lifting anything heavy, his band and port HAS TO HEAL, and usually most surgeons recommend to not lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for 6 weeks, but I would recommend for him to take it easy for at least 2 months to heal, surgeons stitch the port to a muscle and if it does not heal thoroughly....your hubby can expect future port replacements. To minimize this, make sure he does not lift anything heavy until he is fully healed. Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

He has a pretty physical job. If it was a desk job ten days could work but he will be bending a lot. I would say take a month. Recovery was not easy for me and it was around 6 wks before i felt normal again, a month before i stopped being so sore.
