Kholrabi

Someone wanted me to let them know how the Kholrabi I was planning to cook turned out.

It was lovely.   I sauteed it for a bit with garlic & olive oil.. then since I wanted it very tender (and it had been left in the garden a bit too long and was on the tough side), I poured 1/2 cup of chicken broth over it and covered the pan and simmered it until tender.

Next time I will use a little apple juice or cider vinegar..  I think that would be delicious.

Sounds really good. Is it gaseous?
I love celeriac, but the resulting gas is so bad, I had to stop eating it. It's a great substitute for potatoes.
 Same thing with fennel.
Best,

Well, since I just ate it last night, it's hard to say.  But so far I don't feel any gassier than usual.  I'm only eating 1/2 cup at a time..so any gas should be minimized.

Have you tried taking bean-o before eating foods you know will give you trouble?

I don't think I've seen celeriac in the stores here.  hmmmm

Yes, I have tried Beano, but well after I last tried eating either kholrabi or celeriac (otherwise known as celery root).
Your post gave me the idea to try those again.... with Beano!
Thanks.

I once used khorabi in a Gardeneria.  It was my favorite of all of the veggies.  I just boiled the veggies in white vinegar and salt for a minute or so, then packed them in canning jars.  I gave them as Christmas gifts one year and everybody loved them.
