So frustrated with others

Ok so I have decided I want to get the lap-band down, and waiting to get into to see surgeon.  I started talking to people about it and people are being so freaking rude about it saying I am taking the easy way out, and how I am doing the wrong thing.  I am not taking the easy way out.  I know that I will have to work out hard and eat healthy to lose this weight.  I have lost 100 lbs on my own before even I have thought of this.  I am stuck at 296 lbs.  I have 165 lbs more to lose.  It is frustrating knowing I have lost so much but have so much more to lose.  This is a tool that will help me take my weight loss to another level.

WHY IS IT OK AND ACCEPTABLE FOR SOMEONE TO GET A BOOB JOB, BUT EVERYONE HAS A PROBLEM WITH LAP-BAND SURGERY?

At least I'm trying to better myself.  Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this?  Because I am so frustrated at this point.

I am so upset by how people are treating me, and I haven't even had it done yet.  Should I just keep it a secret to the people are being jerks to me.

I don't even bring it up. When people ask how I lost my weight I say watching portions, carbs and exercise my ass off. I am not lying when I say that because that is what I do. I have told a few people but that is it. And having the lapband is no easy way out. All it does is curb your hunger and portions sometimes. It dint make me exercise, it dont make me eat healthy, it don't stop me from eating junk food, and it dont stop the head hunger or emotional eating.
Next time tell them to kiss your ass

Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this?

not share your WLS journey or be highly selective who you share it with ??

Ah, those who know better than we do what is better for us.  And, they have never walked a day in our shoes.

I had a different surgery, but no matter what surgery we have, it seems like someone is going to be negative about us having wls at ALL.  It is really none of their business.  It is nice when someone is genuinely concerned for ya, but genuine concern should not be expressed through sarcasm and put-downs.

Of course, if someone HAS been there, done that and knows what I am doing is dangerous,  I would listen to them.  It just depends on where the person is coming from.  Some folks think that we are lazy to have any wls done.  Some folks genuinely just want to tell us that they don't want us to have the same struggle they did and can teach us how to avoid the same pitfalls.

I wish you the very best.

I completely understand. I think that people who criticize those who have WLS are just totally clueless about the reality of obesity, or secretly jealous, or somehow threatened by the idea that you're taking charge of your health.

I was so happy about having WLS, I told everybody and their brother. Later, I wished I hadn't been so open. No one ever gave me a negative or judgmental comment, but I felt like they were watching me and waiting for me to fail (maybe I was being paranoid).

Since you're getting so many negative reactions to the idea of WLS, if I were you, I'd stop sharing your plans. You shouldn't have to listen to that kind of crap, so don't invite it.

I only told a couple of close friends and I wish that I had not told them.  When people ask what I am doing to lose weight I tell them that I eat high protein, count my calories and walk 5 miles a day.  It angers me for people to think that any type of WLS is taking the easy way out.  People can be very mean and jealous of someone doing something to improve thereself.  Don't look down upon me unless you are holding out your hand to help me up.  Best of luck to you in your WL journey.

sometimes people don't know when to keep their mouths shut. trust me, if it wasn't you they were judging, it would have been the person next to them. some people are just like that. stay in the positive- there is NOTHING easy about WLS so clearly they just showed you their ignorance. Initially, I told my husband, parents and best friend. As time went on, I told more people because at this point, they can kiss my shrinking butt .

don't sweat it, just focus on YOU.
