How do you stop looking at the scale!!
I had the lap band done on June 6 and i have lost 24lbs and it seems like the weight loss has stopped. I think that every morning i am on the scale and it does no longer move and i feel that i am doing every thing right but i have no idea as a reference how much or how fast it is going to come off. I am trying to be patient but i do not want to get discouraged either. I was wondering if anyone has felt this way and what did you do .
You have lost 24 lbs since 6-6-11. Congrats to you. It's fun to look at the scale in the beginning when the weight just seems to be falling off. But that doesn't continue. Your body has to adjust. But keep checking your clothes. They will continue to get bigger as your body is adjusting at a plateau of weight. Best to only check once a week, on the day of your choosing. If you are doing all the right things, just keep it up and it will turn out for you.
Like Debbie said the first month after surgery is wonderful. You get on the scale every morning and see it dropping you get use to it and then here comes the brakes .
You need to pick one day and weigh in . My weigh in day is on Friday that is when I change my ticker on here if I lost anything.
It dont matter if I weigh in on a Wed morning to me it dont count till Friday .
There might be times I will drop two pounds in a week and then I will go a week to almost three weeks of not losing a single pound but then drop 3 pounds all at once.
Like Debbie said just keep doing what you are doing and the weight will come off :o) But dont get upset when you hit stalls. They can last anywhere from a week to months at a time that is just all part of losing weight .

Honestly, I have weighed practically everyday since my surgery. I skipped a few days here and there but not much. As of right now my home scale is broken so that gives me incentive to get up and hit the gym in the morning so I can get on their scale. Weighing each day helps me to see what I'm doing....whether I'm maintaining or gaining and that really makes a difference with me. I had gotten too relaxed starting during the holidays last year when I went back to college and even though I kept weighing..I allowed myself to gain 25 lbs and I watched every lb come back. Well, it was really upsetting and I've gotten control of myself and I use that scale to motivate me to get to the gym each day; sometimes twice a day. If I see that my weight has went up by 3 lbs in the afternoon; it might cause me to hit the gym a 2nd time for the day.I found the same passion I had to lose 70 lbs in 6 months and over 100 lbs in less than a year. So, I know what it takes...it takes keeping an eye on the scale just like you do your money. I try to value my weight the way I value my money. If I gain, I want to see it, and if I lose, I definitely want to see that!!!
So there you have it... For some people its too difficult to weigh every day, for others its their motivation. It just depends on you and what is best for you.
Really try not to judge your success only by the scale, I know its easier said than done, but I am speaking from experience. I have hit a plateau now for 2 months, and its discouraging. But I am not gaining and I am not giving up. What's the alternative, going back to the way it was before the surgery? NO! That's not an option. Give your self grace to love your self and your body right where it is today. Your doing great!!!

How to stop looking at the scale? I don't know as I have never stopped looking. I don't let stalls bother me.. I have faith that the scale will again move downward and it always has so far. In fact, my numbers bounce around a bit.. right now I'm bouncing between 174 (new low this am) to 177 to 180 and back down again. I will eventually stablize around 175 to 177 (180 to 182 was my former stable weight) and stay there awhile and then start bouncing downward again.
Everyone's weight loss pattern is different.
I've heard people say that they put their scale in the garage or outside and the only way they will allow themselves to weigh is nude.. so this cuts down the number of visits to the scale.
I lost really fast the first year, as fast as many RNY patients (and no, I wasn't starving myself.. my diet changed so very drastically from fried & chips/queso & fast foods to healthy home prepared portion controlled meals). When I finally slowed to a normal bandster rate in the second year I got very discouraged for a while. To keep me motivated, I started taking my measurements every month. That helped a lot. Even though the scale wasn't moving very fast or even not changing at all.. I could see the numbers changing on my measurements.
Hang in there, you're still in the beginning stages of banding where the first 6 weeks is all about healing, not about weight loss. Any loss that occurs during this time is a bonus. More loss will come, your body needs a chance to catch up with itself.

I just had to comment and tell you that this is exactly the way I lose, which is not unlike so many of us! My scale will play with my head like crazy, but I am used to it. I usually hit the LOW number, 280 is my recent low. But I have only seen that once in a week!! I have been anywhere between 282 - 284 and one day I watched as I stepped on the scale 5 times and it went up pound each time to 287. Yikes!!! I will see that 280, probably in the next couple of days. And then I will go down a few and those pounds will be fast! I just have to be patient enough to wait for it.
Glad to see you post this, as I know that I am not alone in this.

I just want to thank everyone for your comments. I guess i have to see what is for me scale or no scale. I know that it will come off i need to get a little less hard on myself about it. Mabe give me a pat on the back instead of being so cridicle. Knowing that i am not alone is a good feeling and seeing that this is all new to me. I did not relize i would not keep loosing so quickly but i guess it is part of the process and i need to look at it that way. Thanks
