Plateau - 3 weeks!

Hi Everyone

I have not lost a pund in the last 3 weeks - I have great restriction - would not want anymore than what I have now or I wouldn't be able to eat anything.  I exercise a lot - different things like walking 2 - 5 K, Curves with Zumba and I have a personal trainer once a week.  Has anyone else experienced this and will it just all of a sudden start dropping again?  Should a do something different?

Thanks for any advice!
Lori

Hi Lori,

This is something you will just have to get use to.  I do this all the time.  I can go as long as six weeks not losing anything and some of the girls on here has said they have went months without losing anything.

I will lose a a couple of pounds then it might be another week or two and I will drop another 3 its always been that way for me .  Very frustrating .

All you can do is make sure you are doing everything you can and the weight will come off :o)

Make sure you are taking your measurements once a month or every couple of months also

Hi Lori, what you are experiencing is normal. Our bodies just seem to take a rest from losing sometimes then resume. First of all I wouldn't worry. If you are carefully logging every bite you are eating, getting in all of your fluids (that can mess with weight loss), and don't see any where you are going wrong then you could try lowering your carb intake. This works for some, not for others. When I go back to just protein and veggies for a week or 10 days my body responds. As I said though, others don't.

Another thing you could try is to switch your exercise routine. Try weight training instead of some of the cardio. Again, our bodies figure out what we are doing and then get lazy. By switching the routine it causes that jump again.

All in all, plateaus happen to nearly everyone and sometimes several times. They do pass. Good luck, Sue

Been there... SO frustrating.  And the one thing I've found that seems to bust the plateau just boggles my mind but, for me at least, it never fails.  I think that our bodies get complacent and accustomed to running on what we are feeding them and with the activity level we have, whatever that is.  So changing things up is really the only way to kind of jump start them back into losing weight.  I've tried shocking mine every which was but the ONE thing that works without fail is to INCREASE my calories for a few days.

Everyone is different but for me, if I haven't seen movement on the scale for a week or so, I'll add an extra snack of something with a higher fat content.  Some cheese and avocado slices or a spoonful of peanut butter a couple of times a day.  It runs counter-intuitive to everything my head is screaming at me to do but for me, it works.  My body takes those extra calories and gets back on track.  To someone else, it may sound like the craziest thing in the world but it really works.

Another place to look is at your sodium intake.  It just KILLS me how so many "healthy" foods are jam packed with loads and loads of sodium.  That crap will derail you faster than almost anything.

Good luck!
