Prolapsed Stomach?
I just spoke with my surgeon (because i am suspecting a slipped band) and i was told i had to get an upper GI immediately because a prolapsed stomach is life-threatening. it just freaked me out a bit and was wondering if anyone know of anyone who this has happened to (a prolapsed stomach). i figured i would ask here before i become a psycho googling it and read scary stuff. i know that i will be fine and am now looking for a GI (just moved to a new state).

This is what I had. My stomach twisted into a Figure 8.
My NEW surgeon's words (after my OLD surgeon told me to "get a hobby." ) were: You're gonna die if we don't operate RIGHT NOW. I hadn't had a bowel movement in 2 weeks, had excruciating abdominal pain, left shoulder pain... the whole 9 yards.
Are you experiencing any of these symptoms? I hope not.

no BM, BUT i am also on protein shakes only until my upper GI, so that's probably why. i don't think i have a prolapsed stomach (not that i would know... just assuming i would be in pain). the surgeon's office told me, after i said i will stay on liquids and look around for a local gastro that takes my insurance or fly back to where i used to live to see him, "you can get a prolapsed stomach and that is life-threatening." then... i bugged out. not taking my time now

Why are you suspecting a prolapse band? Are having very bad symptoms? aka...burning/constant reflux/frothing at the mouth/chest pains/frequent vomiting/food intolerance's?
The only way to tell for sure is for your surgeon to check with an Upper GI...if in fact your band has prolapsed...meaning too late to try to fix with an unfill you will have to get it removed or replaced. Good luck.

i don't suspect a prolapsed stomach- i suspect a slipped band. i can't keep most solids down, unless i take the tiniest of bites and chew forevs, and the reflux is a killer. the surgeon's office told me that the stomach can prolapse when the band slips. so that freaked me out. thanks.. i'm on it

I can't answer your questions, but I will be praying for you. I hope you do not have the prolapse but if you do I am glad they are catching it.
Can't your surgeons office get you a GI? They can order the test and have the results called to them with out a GI specialist. I just had an UGI a few months ago and that is how they worked it.
Good luck to you and keep us posted, please!

Had my band sugery May 2007 and band prolapsed in October of 2008, I did not know that this happened, I had a fill under floroscopy and doctor seen prolapse. I had surgery about 2 weeks later, all he did was go in and pull stomach that had prolapsed back down through band and did a different type of stitching to hold better and I have been ok ever since. Trust your doctor to do what is best and definetly get to a GI my doctor recommended one because all GI's are not familiar with WLS.
Hoping for the best keep us posted and know your are in our prayers.

my surgeon had me call a colleague of his out of cleveland hospital in florida. i left the surgeon a message about who i was and what the potential problem was. he had someone call me back to tell me he would happily see me right away but the girl in the office said he does not accept my insurance and i would have to be self-pay. so, i am now looking for a Gastro who takes my insurance and then have the results sent back to my surgeon. thanks for the sweet words of support- totally appreciated!!!

A slip is a prolapse. It isn't so much that the band slides DOWN the stomach further, it's that more of your stomach is pulled UP through the band. Yes, it can be dangerous, but not all slips are so dramatic. Your surgeon is right to want to know what is going on right away.
