Hid My Scale Yesterday

I have read on this forum and also have known for years not to weigh myself everyday. Buuuuttttt I have been so excited since my surgery that I have weighed myself each morning and I get so excited. Well, yesterday I weighed myself and I gained one pound. All my old thoughts came back to haunt me. Am I going to fail again, what did I do wrong? I finally excused myself from my pity party, put the scale away and will pull it out on Wednesdays to weigh myself. I know I have been exercising and following my doctors food guide to a T. I refuse to acknowledge my old way of thinking!!! I am going to be victorious, lose weight and be healthy again!! I hope this post blesses someone. I am talking to myself more than anyone:)

Good for you! I think it's really important not to get too caught up with the scale. A weigh in once a week is good. That's what I did while I was loosing. I have gained back a few pounds. I have decided to "get back on track" with lowcarb/high protien. I am going to stay off the scale for 4 days and see then how I am doing. The natural flucuations were driving me crazy. You are doing all the right things. Keep up the good work!

You are doing awesome.  You only got banded recently.  I lost 10 pounds on liquids, and then didn't lose one lousy pound until this last week when I got my first fill.  That was one whole month of not losing anything.  Now, I've lost 4 pounds in three days.  It does get better, but I had those same fears--oh, no!  I'll fail at this weight loss attempt too!  Hang in there, sweetie.  Eventually it does come off.
One day at a time, and one meal at a time, and I WILL reach my goal!

Way to go for being strong and realizing your old ways of thinking...and doing something about it. I still have some habits to break for sure! I have only lost 4 lbs since surgery but I am happy about that. My stomach muscles are VERY sore today for some reason and I have hardly left the couch. I forget sometimes that I am not Supergirl and its only been a week since surgery. lol My son loves to jump on me and be picked up....his is 40 lbs. I'm paying for it today. lol  Well, I hope you continue to stay strong and keep posting. You are inspiring!!:)

Hey Girl,

Careful with the lifting. My Dr. has me on a 20 lb. restriction for 30 days. You're still healing so take it easy.

Most of us have definately been where you are and having the same failure feelings you're having.  It is so much fun to weigh daily in the beginning when liquids cause the scale to go down almost daily.  When that stops those failure feelings come back.  But it ISN'T like before.  Weekly weighs are best.  I have cut mine to twice a week.  Because of the way I work the band, my exercise, and my bouts with night munchies, I am afraid to let it go a whole week.  So though I weigh on Tuesdays and Saturdays, I think for most people weekly is the best.

I've always been an everyday weigher... OMG it drove me CRAZY!! I would let that stupid little number (or big number...lol) dictate my mood for the day,and it would ALWAYS set me up for failure!

If the number went down, I'd "celebrate" and stuff my face because I "earned" it...

If the number went up, I'd say "screw it!" because it was already up right???  Why not continue that cycle...

So - I've removed my scale from my bathroom as well!  And when it's weigh in day (for me, now it's Mondays) I bring it out, see the number and put it away.

You're doing really well, so keep it up!!  Good luck!!

When I went from stage 2 (full liquids) to stage 3 (pureed foods) my weight loss stopped and it stayed paused for two weeks (it was also my TOM and I was constipated). Not a pleasant time to say the least, but when the weight came off after the three week pause I lost ten pounds in one week. From that point I am averaging two pounds a week weight loss. Your body just needs time to adjust to the changes, we are really giving our bodies a surprise and it doesn't know what to do with itself.

At 800 calories a day, I think my body is sometimes still confused about being in starvation mode or not. But have faith, stick to the plan, exercise, and don't weight yourself daily. I personally weight myself daily, but I take it with a grain of salt, it is not going to ruin my day b/c i know that i am eating properly and exercising....on those days when I look at the scale and see it staying the same, I just figure my body is a little confused. And I move on.

Good luck!
