high BMI
I've now lost 200 +/- lbs and my BMI is around 30 I think, this morning's weight was 177. To get to normal, I'd have to weigh a maximum of 149.5.. I think I'd look sick at that weight. Right now I'm wearing size 16's and would like to get into 14's, but if I never do, I'm cool. :)
[BTW, I'm one of those who doesn't live & die by the BMI. It's a good starting place, but it's not accurate for those who've been obese for a long period of time (our bones are heavier than the norm), for post-menopausal women (me!) or for athletes. As a post-menopausal woman with a family hx of osteoporosis, I want a little padding on my hips to protect me from the falls that will surely happen sometime. ]
I don't know how much I lost each month.. it really varied. I know for a while at the very beginning I was losing about 4lbs a week. I wasn't starving myself either. What happened is that my diet changed drastically from fried foods and chips and queso to lean meat and low carb veggies and very little processed carbs. I now occassionally indulge in fried or chips/queso, but it's not every...single...day like it was pre-surgery. Do I miss the high fat foods? Maybe a little.. but for me it's worth the trade off.
The first 100 lbs took 7 months to come off. The second 100 took about another 15 months. I do exercise quite a bit now, but the first 7 months my main exercise was walking.
There will probably be some posts telling you to not do a band with a high BMI. They may have some valid points and you should research all of the Weight Loss Surgeries and make sure banding is the right choice for you as many insurances are going to one WLS per lifetime. But it is possible to lose a large amount of weight with the band.
Best of luck to you.
Hello
When I started I was 354 lbs and my BMI was 54. 2 1/2 years later I am 204 lbs and a BMI of 31. I still want to lose another 50 lbs...but I am still steadily losing so I just have to have patience. It is possible to lose a lot of weight with the band but remember it will take a lot of work. I can't say how many pounds I lost a month because it varied. Sometimes I would lose 4 lbs a month, sometimes 10 lbs. The most I ever lost in a month was 16 lbs and the least was 4 lbs. My weigh also really didn't come off till I started a very rigorous exercise program. So I literally work hard for every pound lost. My band definitely doesn't do it for me.
But if you wanted to know is it possible...I say yes
Me before surgey----YUCK!!!
After-----
all the weight has been lost post-op..I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
highest weight: 333 pounds (I know I gained after my last "weigh in" in the doctors office so probably it's more like 340 pounds)
current weight: 151 pounds (7/12/11)
I've been at goal (165 pounds) for 6 months now and now on maintence. I tend to go up and down depending on time of the month and such!
