Surgery Thursday - Band over Bypass (BOB)

Thursday cannot come soon enough!  The first week of liquids was not tough but the last 48 hours has kicked my ass!  Plus I've been insanely dizzy and faint.    And while I had been constipated the entire 1st week, I have now had diarrhea for 2 straight days. The only positive in this phase is the 10+ lbs I have lost in a little over a week. My surgery is schedule for 5pm on Thursday. My mom will be coming up to NYC at about 12nn on Thursday and plans to stay a day or so. More so to help with my 2 big 50lb and 75lb dogs. I don’t think the recovery will be bad, I mean it’s a lap band but one never knows. She is also planning on repairing my hernia at the same time. Last time, in 2002, my open RNY kicked my ass and I was in the hospital for 6 days. I hope this recovery is different, better. I plan on going back to work Monday. I work from home so I don’t think this will be much of a problem.

Wish me luck!

Be prepared to take it easy. It is still major surgery . My surgery was Friday and the gas pain was almost unbearable this morning. I find this much worse then my two C-sections. I also think I tried to stop the pain meds to soon. The doc said I could drive on Monday but I don't see that happening.  Make sure you walk walk walk. Are you staying in the hospital over night? Good luck and have a speedy recovery.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the gas will affect me as my last surgery was Open not Lap.  I do hear ya about all the air they blow into ya!  I live in Manhattan so walking is not only easy but required.  My insurance approved 1 day, which I think means 24 hrs.  My surgery is scheduled for 5pm, so, I know I will be there that night and leave the next morning.

Be sure to put a pillow on your lap to keep your doggies from jumping on your incisions.  That really helped me, and my babies weigh a lot less than yours.  I kept it on my lap, and moved it up when they came up for kisses.  I know all will go well.
One day at a time, and one meal at a time, and I WILL reach my goal!

They arent much of lap dogs but they do like to jump.  When I had the open RNY in 2002, I didnt have them so I will have to remember that!  Thanks for the advice :-)

I know what you mean about some surgeries kicking you.. I had 2 c/sections and was in the hospital for a week with each.

However, with my lap hyst, I only stayed overnight and with my band, I was d/c'd the same day.  Lap is a bunch easier than open surgery.  I bet you will do well.

Best of luck to you!

Yay for you. Stock up on Gas x strips and start taking them as soon as you can. They help dissipate the gas pumped inside you and of course walking.
