I am THINKING ABOUT A REVISION at 6 years
No, i think everyone should post here! She should realize that she is in the minority for success with the band. They dont call it the CrapBand for nothing! Go look at all the Lapband's looking to revise on the Revision board...humm wonder why!
Nana- Im gonna say you might want to get an EGD done to see if the Band has caused any issues. You may not feel them yet BUT I doubt everything is great in there!
I say this because im 5 yrs out and did an EGD on Fri because i started getting some mild but presistant acid reflux in the evening, they found the i have EROSIVE GASTRITIS, ESOPHAGITIS and a HIATAL HERNIA.
I followed the band rules and actually thought i had a good fill but i turns out i have almost no fill and the ESOPHAGITIS is what has been causing me to get stuck one my first bite of food all these yrs! Nothing like feeling like your having a heart attack everytime you attempt to eat!
Oh and on top of all that i only lost 30lbs with the band and gain 40 back!
Im looking to revise to the DS because there is actually numbers to back the surgery and i expect to take about 20 vits a day which means i will know my vit levels and be healthier than anyone else around me!
I would not wish the CrapBand on my worst enemy and will be on this board talking **** about it til the end of time!

The band is not meant for everyone...it seems like your band was too tight too long to cause damage...FYI...I get my band checked once a year, I've had my band checked in the past twice a year and so far so good, and of course, I don't keep my band tight enough to cause any long term damage to my organs. I use it wisely and worked my band to lose my weight, I knew from the git-go the band does not induce weight loss, it helps you stay on track and a great tool for maintenance, I used it as a tool and not as a crutch....I wish you well with your revision.
Good, im glad you've had you're band check often:) I NEVER had my band tight at any point. The Dr thinks ive had Esophagitis all this time and that mimicks a lot of the bands alleged "sweet spot" qualitied. Feeling of fullness after a few bites, diminshed hunger but along with that is the stuck feeling. I thought it was just part of being banded!
Luckily the damage the band has done appears to be reversible.

WOW! 500 pills a day! Good lord, what am I getting myself into??? Gee, and here I was thinking I was going to help myself by getting the DS... Thank you for opening my eyes even though you haven't had the DS.
In case you didn't realize it, that was sarcasm. If you don't know what you are talking about, please refrain from spreading false information to others. The lapband may be working for you, but if it isn't working for other people, don't misinform them to the point that they are terrified to look for help in other places.
I knew one person who lost 80 pounds on the band going form a size 26/28 to an 18 for a year and she made many many trips in for fills and was always vomitting when I talked to her. I know she gained a lot of her weight back now years later and I feel sorry for her. I had the vertical banded gastroplasty for 25 years(aka stomach stapling - the surgery the band mimics) so I now what it is like to have to live on soft foods to eat much and yes I enjoyed a lot of sweets and tasty things but not nutritious food. I even kept off over 100 pounds but I was in the small minority for that. Later after my Mom died and menopause it was finally creeping back up but fortunately I discovered the DS and am doing very well. Luckily many of the supplements are small and easy and I found chewables and substitutes for big pills and tho I never liked taking pills I am doing fine now 6 months later.
I resent the lies you post about the DS as it could be a lifesaver for a lot of MO people who come here and read that fiction you wrote so callously. Why do the other surgeries bother you so much? Are you really sure you don't want a revision?? I have a feelnig you do!

I rarely come to the lap band forum much anymore, I used to post frequently, this is where I started and got most of my support to help me in my weight loss efforts, many of my friends have been RUN OFF, BY RUDE OBNOXIOUS DSrs, the lap band forum has been taken over by bitter ex bandsters and EXTREMELY RUDE DSrs that attack newbies for choosing the band ...AND QUITE FRANKLY I AM SICK OF IT.
Do I have to come here - NO, I have a fulfilling life and I have no complications where I need support ...BUT I DO LIKE TO COME AND READ THE FORUMS A FEW TIMES A WEEK TO STAY ON TRACK WITH MY WEIGHT LOSS AND HELP OUT NEWBIES..BUT I CAN'T EVEN DO THAT FOR ALL THIS FREAKING BAND BASHING...I MEAN GOOD GRIEF SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN RUN OFF, THE BAND BASHING HAD GOTTEN SO BAD..NEWBIES AND SOME VETS WERE SCARED TO POST HERE FROM ALL THE BULLIES.
SO...I THOUGHT I WOULD STEP IN AND CLARIFY THINGS AND GIVE DETAILS ABOUT EACH SURGERY THAT SOME OF THESE BASHERS ARE NOT TELLING.
AS LONG AS our forum stay peaceful where people can come here and get the support they NEED without all this stupid bashing then we can keep peace and keep things in perspective, if you can't STAND THE HEAT STAY OUT OF THE KITCHEN, you see I don't start wars I END THEM, I've been around these forums for a long time and I've SEEN AND HEARD IT ALL.
You see your DS forum is not taken over by disgruntle DSrs, you can get all the support in PEACE THAT YOU NEED.
And regarding stomach stapling --OH GOD I would not wish that misery on NO ONE, you know how I know? My oldest sister had her stomach stapled back in 1985, and HER SURGERY TURNED ME OFF WITH ANY WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY, she lost a ton of weight in the beginning and about 4 years later she was back up over 300 pounds, not only that, she could not tolerate ANY SOLID FOODS, she would eat and about 30 minutes later she would vomit up her food EVERY SINGLE DAY, it was absolutely disgusting...her vomit was not not slime like a lap bander it was REAL DISGUSTING VOMIT, and she suffers quietly from stomach pain every single day I feel so sorry for her...you see we lap banders don't vomit, we PB..no acid it is more like a baby spit up if you eat too quickly and don't allow the food to funnel down, but that is very rare for me....
I was scared to get ANY weight loss surgery because I have SEEN with my own eyes what my sister has gone through with your stomach stapling . You see the band is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from Stomach Stapling, WE CAN EAT SOLIDS without vomiting and WE CAN ADJUST OUR BAND TO OUR OWN COMFORT LEVEL, yea some people have DAMAGED BANDS where they suffer from constant reflux, vomiting and pain THIS IS NOT NORMAL WITH THE BAND, with a healthy properly adjusted band, we can eat any foods and we get full quick....you got a LOT BITTER BAND BASHERS THAT HAVE DAMAGED THEIR BANDS AND ARE ANGRY AND LIVING IN MISERY...THIS IS WHY I TRY TO COME BACK TO THE FORUMS TO HELP NEWBIES OUT TO PREVENT THEM FROM PERMANENT BAND DAMAGE FROM BEING TOO TIGHT.
Why would I want a revision at this point???? If I want a revision I will get one...it's as simple as that....I was HONESTLY LOOKING AT THE SLEEVE when I was going through fill issues about 2 years ago but AFTER LEARNING MORE ABOUT IT AND READ STUDIES ABOUT HOW IT WILL STRETCH, I WOULD BE FOOLISH TO GIVE UP MY BAND WITH GOOD RESTRICTION TO GET MY STOMACH REMOVED --- THAT WOULD NOT MAKE SENSE ONLY TO LOSE RESTRICTION IN A FEW YEARS...but since I've change band surgeons my restriction has been perfect for the last year so I am VERY HAPPY WITH MY BAND RIGHT NOW...it has not been a totally smooth ride but overall I am happy with it.
Edited to Add: You seem like a sincerely nice person...unusual for a DSr, I honestly wish you well with it; and I hope you have an uneventful journey and a very fulfilling life.
