Food Deprivation- From Bandwagon Newsletter
I'm an Avid Bandwagon- On the Road Newsletter reader and a card carrying fan of Jean. The most recent edition struck a very timely nerve. I recently got fill and I'm at the highest level of restriction that I've ever been. For the first time since being banded I can only eat 1/2 cup of food. I'm grieving because I can't eat around my band like I've been accustomed to for the last year and a half. I also learned a new word, "bereft", and it perfectly describes where I am mentally and emotionally as I grieve over portion size. I'm hoping, seeking, praying for guidance through this.
In the article Jean wrote,
"..getting used to food deprivation is part of the mental and emotional work of being a bandster."
"..after you get through the deprivation stage, your eating life can become wonderful, better than ever before, because during those months of deprivation and learning the band eating skills, you're also preparing your body and brain for the fantastic experience of greatly enjoying, and being completely satisfied by, tiny portions of food."
Looking forward to getting to that "completely satisfied by, tiny portions of food" phenomenon. After 18 months, I'm still learning daily.
