HI Dawn!  Well, since we have the same surgeon AND I work in the office AND I do the post op teaching... no carbonation ever.... you can try but it wont be fun... at least thats what a few patients told me after they tried some soda or beer and called the office crying in agony!

Take care and hope you are doing well!
Jan

all the weight has been lost post-op..I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

highest weight: 333 pounds (I know I gained after my last "weigh in" in the doctors office so probably it's more like 340 pounds)
current weight: 151 pounds (7/12/11)
I've been at goal (165 pounds) for 6 months now and now on maintence.  I tend to go up and down depending on time of the month and such!

I've got the okay to have soda if I want -- but it's not a big deal because I've never been a big soda drinker. I'll have a cup of coke or fruit flavored pop a few times a year.  My surgeon's dietitian said the real reason they (at that practice) discourage soda drinking is because it is very common for obese people to be addicted to it and it is very easy to go back to it once you start. Apparently one of the problems with soda addiction, according to my nutritionist is that even if you drink diet soda the artificial sweetener (or real sugar if you drink the full calorie stuff) sets your body up to crave other sweets and carbs.

Jan, I was hoping you would weigh in! At least until I got home to check my paperwork (which I did, and of course you're right).

And
Lisa - thanks for sharing your story!

Believe me, I was not asking because *I* want to start drinking soda again. To be honest, I don't miss it much at all. I haven't had a single sip of a carbonated drink since the week before surgery.

I am concerned about my coworker. She didn't seem to get ANY post-op guidance or info from her surgeon's office, and she isn't very computer savvy so she doesn't visit this or any other surgery related site. I walk a fine line between trying to give her some advice and suggestions and not wanting to play "band police." Ya know?

However, she usually seems happy to get my input and I will definitely share all your thoughts with her.

Thanks, everyone!!!

You can't go back and make a brand new start, but you can start from now and make a brand new end.
