Update and Shoulder Pain
Good afternoon ladies and gents!:)
So I am on day 4 post-op. I was 241 after all the IV fluids and today I am back at 237. I feel pretty good. Still getting used to feeling all the tugging going on in my gut but I know I will get used to it and it will also let up. I am already on soft foods. My Dr seemed to be happy with my healing and since I have no major issues I was told I can slowly progress myself as I see fit...but if I feel like I eat something and it just sits there to go back a phase (clear liquids, full liquids...). So far so good! Did I say how much I missed WATERMELON?! hehe
I am walking daily. Today I will be walking 2 miles with my mother after work...the heat finally dropped a little so I am going to take advantage of it!
My only complaint thus far is my left shoulder. I guess it is a common side effect and will go away over time...but I feel like someone stabbed a big ol' ice pik into my left shoulder. Its not fun. It comes and goes but it bothers me most of the day. The doctor said its normal and yes, it will go away. Heres to hoping its sooner than later! Any of you ladies have to deal with this?
I hope you are all doing well and succeeding in each step you take...and if not...never give up. Tomorrow is always another day!

I know that everyone has different experiences but GEEZ, I must be a whimp! We had surgery the same day, the pain was awful and I still hurt and get wore out quickly. I cant even imagine walking 2 miles yet. I go back to work on Thursday. i am a nurse and I dread being in my feet for 12 hrs. I am only on liquids and I tried creamy potato soup and it made me sick. I am getting awful gas pains when I swallow air. I havent vomited at all and havent taken pain meds in 2 days. I am envious of your progress with the recouperation but also joyful in your triumphs. I gained 4 lbs of water weight putting me at 269 at post op day 1. Today I am back to 265, day of surgery weight. Keep in touch and we can compare stories. You are doing AWESOME!
I'm so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well!! I was back to work on Monday...however I have a desk job (accountant). I wish you the best of luck on a long shift. To be honest...it will do you good. I feel better the more I am up and moving. I have been chewing the "Gas X" tabs twice a day and have not had much of an issue with gas. I do get pains when I feel I need to burp and it wont come up...but I just stand up tall and straight and it seems to shift it and its over with. Don't be scared to take the pain meds (thats what my doctor said lol). I DO get tired pretty quick. I have been in bed by 7:30 or 8:30 most nights. I hope things get better for you soon, love!!! Best of luck!
Yay, we are all new to this. Get some gas x strips and take up tp 8 a day. That was the worst part for me the shoulder/gas pain. Hurt sooooo bad. Oh yeah and very warm showers and walking. Glad you are up and at em.
Tomorrow is three weeks post op for me. I am down 24 lbs. (including preop diet) hehe I am taking each pound into account. I am on the pereed/soft food stage and I just had a yummy dinner. Have you checked out theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com? She has some good recipes. Just made the ricotta bake and it was awesome. I can eat 1/2 cup and then I am full. One other website that is helpful to me is myfitnesspal.com. I track everything that goes in my mouth. Next Wednesday I graduate to real food...kinda nervous about that because pills still won't go down.
Anyhoo, take care!!

Hi Ladies,
I am day 12 post op and most of the gas pains are gone. I think I bypassed the shoulder pain with a lot of walking. Finding that happy medium is good since I overdid it and got a hematoma at the port site. I did however seem to have other gas that was out or the ordinary on day 4. I came home weighing 11lbs more than the day before so I was none too happy about that. It took me 5 days to get back to surgery weight. Don't be afraid to take that pain med!!!
I am still on liquid, yogurt and pudding. I was told I can go to mushy tomorrow because I am hungry. Due to my hematoma and swelling they are pushing my first fill out for 5 more weeks. I am really nervous about moving up in food. I have been fortunate that I seem to be able to swallow my stuff ok but I split my pills out of fear.

I am on liquids for a few more days then I can add eggs, pudding, cottage cheese, etc. I gain 10 pounds of water weight while in the hospital. It finally came off today. I go for my first doc visit tomorrow. To be honest I am kind of depressed. I am wondering what on earth I was thinking. How are you all doing? Since the post is about a week old I am hoping everyone good.
