I do agree 60 pounds is overkill for RNY but please don't assume that every RNY patient will dump or faint when drinking.

THESE ARE FACTS....everyone I KNOW STILL DUMPS AT 5 YEARS...they just DEAL WITH IT...they still eat sweets carbs...etc....they just prepare for it like lying down but sometimes they faint in PUBLIC....this IS A FACT......
Sure everyone don't DUMP ....BUT MOST DO, at least the people that I came across, I used to be on another forum that had MANY RNY post ops and I became friends with MANY so no research needed there...just like everyone don't have band slippage or have horrible time eating with it.....
Most of my friends are either RNY people or band to sleeve revisions. Only 1 of the RNY dumps, none of the rest ever have, they can eat fats and sweets and are fine. They can also drink more than I ever could with no issues at all.
Nobody ever said that every band patient will have a slip or a horrible time eating. But if you look at the studies, the revision board and the failed weight loss surgery board, you will see way more band revisions than any other failed surgeries.
And now I'm done with this conversation. Feel free to block me if you don't like what I have to say, but anytime I see ignorance being spewed on this board and people making broad based comments like EVERY RNY patient dumps, you better believe I will comment that the statement is wrong.
Naomi, seriously this is one of the most ****** up things I've ever read on OH.
NO you are in FACT wrong, MOST DO NOT dump.
Good for you for having success with your lapband I wish everyone success with WHATEVER surgery they choose but every damn time someone that has had a complication with the band YOU point YOUR finger that they are "USUALLY" at fault. Bull**** and you know it.

Lap bands just DON'T SLIP....if they Just 'slipped' surgeons would be sued like crazy...they know what causes slippage and its well documented...sure sometimes some patients body may reject the band and that is rare...there are post op instructions for a reason....the band CAN slip before six weeks post op if the patient eat solids too quickly or vomits before the band can heal...THIS IS WELL KNOWN.
In the lap band community the symptoms of being too tight which LEADS TO BAND SLIPPAGE if saline is not removed promptly THIS IS WELL KNOWN... ITS NO HIDDEN SECRET THAT NIGHT REFLUX/CARRYING AROUND A SPIT CUP/HORRIBLE BURNING/FOOD INTOLERANCE/VOMITING IS NORMAL??? THESE FOOLS KNEW BETTER...NOT SURE WHY ALL THE BAND BASHERS LIKE TO PLAY DUMB TO THIS... THEY KNOW THEY WERE TOO TIGHT... BUT I GUESS THEY WERE MORE WORRIED ABOUT THE SCALES MOVING THAN GETTING TO THEIR SURGEON IN TIME...AND I GET TIRED OF HEARING THE SAME BULLSH*T FROM THOSE WHO ABUSED THEIR BANDS...IF THEY ARE GOING TO ABUSE IT DON'T BLAME OTHERS and come back there to lie to newbies to say the band causes these issues...they NEED TO SAY DON'T WALK IN THEIR SHOES AND ABUSE THE BAND FROM BEING TOO TIGHT....I THINK THAT IS WHERE THE CLARIFICATION NEEDS TO BE....
.....
Not everyones stomach or esophagus can carry the weight of a foreign object nor does everyone react well to fills. How many fills hand unfills have you had over the years Naomi? I seem to remember many posts from you about being too tight, and that if you're going to keep a tight fill then you should live on yogurt and protein shakes.
Im glad you've been successful with your band and hope you continue to be, but just because not everyone is doesn't give you the right to point fingers. You're not a doctor and have no business telling people why their bands slipped as if you're a medical expert, because you clearly are not. And if you had read the studies on band successes and failure you would see that slipping is the #1 complication, not due to patient fault but due to mechanical design alone. And that comes straight out of the mouth of MY former band surgeon, who himself was banded 12 years ago.

Ok, last post of this nonsense today...I have a life yanno...do you think people are happy to hear about band slippage and complications? I wish that on no one..BAND SLIPPAGE IS NOT NEW..it has been occurring since I got my band over 5 years ago...IN FACT IT WAS MORE SLIPPAGE over 5 years ago than it is now, there are more people getting the band now, which makes it appear like there is more slippage, but slippage WILL CONTINUE as long as people continue to keep their band adjusted TOO TIGHT TOO LONG. This is why I try to come back to the forums to warn newbies about being too tight because I get sick and tired of hearing all this stupid band bashing. Just like you like to educate people on the dangers of the band, I also like to educate them on AVOIDING BAND SLIPPAGE, because every time I log in here that is all I see....
MY BAND ALMOST SLIPPED about 4 years ago, I experienced those same horrible symptoms, but I SAVED MY BAND by being responsible and getting saline removed in time and I healed and moved on....my surgeon mentioned that SO MANY DO NOT COME BACK TO get saline removed because they like being too tight and will lose weight by any means necessary even if they are in misery and vomiting every day....I could not stand that pressure on my esophagus no more than a week and I HATE VOMITING...so I doubt by and will ever slip because I can't stand being tight...I guess different strokes for different folks.
I do think in some cases, the body can't take the pressure of the weight of a band sitting around the top of the stomach.
I really don't think it's fair to label ANY people how have had a slip as it being THEIR FAULT, we have no way of knowing, .........and believe me, having a slip is painful enough, emotionally, that no one needs judgement from us.
